So my 2004 Autobiography LE, bought in May 2013 with 101k on the clock has just turned over 171k so I thought it was time I shared everything thats happened to it as every repair has been documented. (update July 2018 - now 196k(
I became really busy over the next couple of weeks with multiple London and Manchester trips so it didn't go for a checkover until three weeks later. Over the next few weeks a number of preventative maintenance items were pencilled in. 103,634 - Full Service, oil, air, pollen filters, sparks, coolant, brake fluid and new coolant expansion tank to cure a tiny coolant leak from the tank seam and a gearbox flush 103,799 - Rocker Cover Gaskets, Rear Discs and Pads, Dashboard pixels I then experienced my first breakdown in the RR when the alternator failed climbing the hill out of Aberystwyth. 104,451 - New Alternator, drive belt, and while it was in a new radiator fitted and upper hub carrier bushes on the rear. I then when on a spree over the next few months, updating the sat nav for the Mk4, upgrading to digital TV system and patching into the rear headrests as well and a reversing camera. I also installed a detachable towbar. 108,311 - New Air Suspension Compressor 114,300 - New Battery 115,527 (Dec 13) - Service - Oil and Air Filter and a new Gearbox oil cooler so coolant change as well 119,190 (Feb 14) Lower hub carrier bushes, front brake pads, a/c belt 121,657 (Apr 14) Breather Hoses 122,002 (Apr 14) New Pirelli Scorpions on the front, fixed Steering Wheel reach with new nylon clip And to complete the first year, at 125,398 exactly a year after buying a fresh MOT 126,433 (Jun 14) OSF Suspension Strut 128,493 (Jul 14) Service - Oil, Air, Pollen, Fuel filters and new upper arm bushes Outside my flat in July 2014 in Reading parked next to a Shogun I just bought waiting to get taken home to Wales 130,339 (Aug 14) NSF Suspension Strut 131,720 (Aug 14) New Pirelli Scorpions on the rear 132,888 (Sep 14) Water Pump (not usual mechanic as started leaking while on business trip) 133,781 (Oct 14) Upper and Lower Hub Carrier bushes - again, Breather hoses (again although put Silicone ones on this time), front and rear brake pads, new handbrake shoes 137,567 (Dec 14) Front Anti roller drop links 140,749 (Jan 15) Service - Oil, Air, Coolant, Pollen, Fuel filter, Brake fluid, (Feb 15) Accident on M4 which you can see the dashcam footage in the topic - Dashcam saved my insurance) ![]()

As part of the bodyshop work I paid to have the rear tailgate rust fixed as I had never got around to getting it done. 141,412 (Mar 15) New Pirelli Scorpions on front 142,863 (Apr 15) Front Brake pads and discs, front and rear diff oils, transfer box oil 143,102 (Apr 15) AC Belt and Tensioner, Aux Belt 144,289 (May 15) New Pirelli Scorpions on the rear And so completes the 2nd year of ownership with a new MOT at 144,463 150k!
152,217 (Nov 15) Oil and Air Filter and a new headlight wiper to fix a battery drain Feb 16 - Bodyshop rectification work on some of the resprayed panels after accident 156,391 (Mar 16) Front and Rear brake pads, Lower front suspension arms, oil cyclone 157,003 (Apr 16) PCV Valve And third year completed - MOT at 159,244 in May 16 162,700 (Jul 16) Windscreen replacement 162,956 (Jul 16) Breakdown - fuel pump failed 168,348 (Oct 16) Service - Oil and Air Filter, Gearbox oil and filter 169,493 (Nov 16) Rocker Cover Gaskets, New sparkplugs 169,548 (Nov 16) Breakdown - Water pump failure (complete bearing failure after only 35k - presume garage didn't fit OEM) 170,395 (Dec 16) FSR replaced to fix battery drain and new battery (slight misfire traced to low battery voltage) 170,992 (Dec 16) Rear Stabilisers - these were a pig to fit - had three attempts over different weekends as completely seized 173082 (Jan 17) Pirelli Scorpion x 4 175500 (Feb 17) Replacement passenger side window and back window 180,000 (May 17) and then the next day it went for its MOT and service 180105 (May 17) Service & MOT - 2 advisories - corrosion on rear brake pipes and a minor oil leak. 183451 (May 17 Drivers Side tie rod end, rear brake shoes, oil separator pipe (LLY00110), rear brake pipes 184811 (June 17) Rear Wheel Arches rubbed down and resprayed 187338 (Aug 17) Fuel Sender Unit 193306 (Nov 17) Service (Oil & air filters) and a new headlight wiper (again). Also fixed replaced the wiper linkage which came loose on the M4 and had a temporary clip 195664 (Jan 17) New coolant top hose which let go when towing - stupid all in one piece design - whats wrong with a jubilee clip 196095 (May 1 ![]() 197900 (Apr 19) Service, MOT, headlight wiper motor, track rods and rear hub bush Mountain Bike Transport
Pressed into farm work At Twickenham
Horsebox towing Long run home from picking up new farm machinery in Derby So in nearly 3 and half years, I reckon I've lost just 3k in depreciation, but spent a fortune on parts and fuel. I've loved every minute of owning my RR and here is to the next 70k. I have my eye on a 2012 4.4TDV8 Autobiography but even I'm struggling on the man maths for now. I hope this has been interesting, and also a helpful guide to the sort of costs/maintenance running an older L322 may bring - especially as the prices are falling on the early ones to sub 5k they become attractive purchases for the unwary. I know mine had been looked after before I had it and I've definitely looked after it in my ongoing ownership, but I can't begin to imagine the sorts of faults that are going to start costing unsuspecting buyers attracted by lower prices to vehicles which haven't necessarily been as well looked after in the last few years. As values fall, so can the willingness to maintain. Nick. It's not a full Autobiography - it's known as an Autobiography LE which was 125 units made in November 2003 as a special edition. All were petrol V8's and the only optional deviation from the fixed spec was a factory rear entertainment system - models with that fitted are known as Autobiography LE (DVD). Only 2 colour choices and they were not made by Special Vehicles but carry the autobiography logos except for the Special Vehicles plate on the front suspension strut. Somewhere I have a copy of the press release and brochure - as soon as I get time I will scan it in.

Good to see one being used as it should be! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
