Transfer case fault

Last nite when leaving work, started car - put into neutral - select low range - then I idle up out of the very slight incline to the main carpark. As I'm coming onto the carpark proper I put it back into high range and continue on. Last nite it did not want to go back into high. I had to turn off then on again to get it into high. Code is 0x052FO.
Any ideas.

Box and transfer redone approx 40 thou ago with oil change at 20 thou. Thanks

I am guessing you have an 02-05 but there has been a few posts recently about the reluctance to shift, sounds like you use low quite regularly ?
Not sure what that code means , what diagnostic are you using?
Could be the transfer case motor getting tired which probably wasn't changed when the transmission and TB was overhauled as second hand still costs more than a second hand TB without one fitted if that makes sense.

See what he says, the high / low shift is done internally in the transfer box powered by the motor and can get sticky if not used regularly but the fact it worked when you restarted does point towards an electrical fault. i can't find anything on that error code and the transfer box shift motors do have a finite life and there are now refurbished units available on the net.

May not be the motor, but the fingers used for sensing motor position. They rub away at the contact surface in the high range position and then fail to make proper contact

If you open the motor up, you can bend the three fingers very slightly to use a different part of the contact surface

This might be of help.. I did find a likely looking replacement pot on a GM shift motor... reckon the Holden will be the same... might be able to cop hold of one and do a comparison... (I'd be looking for either SH or a dud from a tranny shop.. as it's unproven tech.. who knows Razz )
