I am guessing you have an 02-05 but there has been a few posts recently about the reluctance to shift, sounds like you use low quite regularly ?

See what he says, the high / low shift is done internally in the transfer box powered by the motor and can get sticky if not used regularly but the fact it worked when you restarted does point towards an electrical fault. i can't find anything on that error code and the transfer box shift motors do have a finite life and there are now refurbished units available on the net. |

May not be the motor, but the fingers used for sensing motor position. They rub away at the contact surface in the high range position and then fail to make proper contact

This might be of help.. I did find a likely looking replacement pot on a GM shift motor... reckon the Holden will be the same... might be able to cop hold of one and do a comparison... (I'd be looking for either SH or a dud from a tranny shop.. as it's unproven tech.. who knows )
