I'm considering upgrading to a 2012 4.4. The LTB005513v4 document states the issue affects VINs up to CA393639.
Is it safe to assume vehicles with newer VINs have had the mod fitted during assembly at the factory? 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black
2008 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Java Black

That VIN is the last L322. The 4.4 TDV8 in early L405 had the same problem.

Don't know if ours has this problem... Is it a recall or warranty job and how would you know you were afflicted?

the second turbo doesn't get used if you keep the rpm below 2500 which most do because of the lazy engine...the simplest way to test is to accelerate rapidly and make sure the rev counter goes over that rpm...if yours is suspect then you'll see loads of white smoke bellowing from the exhaust..
it's not a recall and the problem will have to be officialally diagnosed by the dealer who will submit a claim to LR... ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan, I only tend to use ours at weekends because Mrs pld is the daily user. I have noticed a couple of times recently what I thought was a puff of smoke from the exhausts when I've accelerated briskly down motorway slip roads; and in recent months, 2 or 3 times Mrs pld has told me about a DPF warning displayed on the dash but that has always cleared after a 20 to 30 minute 70mph motorway drive (the car does get regularly used on motorway runs but then can end up pootling around locally for a few weeks between home and Mrs pld's work). Car is running fine though and no obvious leaks etc.

Thoughts welcome.

motorway slip roads are a good test bed for this fault...if you do have a fault then there will be quite a bit of white smoke coming from the exhausts on this test.. ... - .- -.

Considering that the dealer selling the car to me had no luck with LR and it looks like the previous owner got no help I can't imagine that they will be willing to give me something towards the fix particularly seeing that I didn't even pay for it.

kingpleb, I agree, and the problem is not that I don't get over 2,500 rpm, or town driving. The car is running fine, but I expect it is waiting for the most inconvenient moment for the turbo to fail... Only Range Rovers since 1988

Scandal as its a known fault as per tech bulletin and certainly not the owners fault.

I have been told by my dealer that the mod is not covered by warranty.
I have asked them to challenge that because I know that at least one has been done under warranty free of charge.
If anyone else has had this mod done under LR Approved warranty PLEASE either post the details, or PM me if you prefer.
Mine is booked in to be looked at, but, the dealer is asking ME for evidence that LR Approved have accepted other claims.

Have you tried speaking to the warranty supplier or LR customer services direct?
After being refused a claim on my last Range Rover for a steering column motor fix, I rang the warranty company and found that Stratstones had misled/misinformed them about the problem. Result was I didn't pay for the repair though I couldn't say for certain who did.
Next instance was a Jag parking sensor issue, Stratstones said that the warranty company refused to pay, however when I rang the warranty company they knew nothing of the claim and told me it would be covered and gave me a reference number to pass on to the dealer along with a number for them to contact. Same thing, the bill was paid by someone other than me.
