Good Morning All,

Which is a good quality oil for the 4.2 S/C? I was looking at getting the Mobil Super 3000 as im sure i read someone on here used that. The engine has only done 74500miles approx so wanting to keep it as sweet as possible. I was just looking on the OpieOils website and dont want to spend more than £30 for 5l. I was planning on getting 10l in total and saving the rest in case of top up etc.

I looked into this a couple of weeks ago and for me it came down to the Mobil 3000 vs Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A5.

The Mobil is cheaper but the Castrol (with the "Stop-Sart" branding) has the newer spec. I went for the Castrol.

The cheapest I could find was from Neilsson CDG via Amazon at £53.99 for 2 x 4L. 2006MY 4.2 SC

So long as it meets the right ford spec you should be ok.

WSS-m2c913-b is the right spec for the 4.2 sc (and also the 3.6 tdv8)

This is an easy spec to find. Some of the other ford specs are tricksy. Shell helix do a match, though possibly not the hx oil as it is a semi synth.

Don't just bung in any 5w30 make sure it is the right spec oil. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mmmm, Magnatech is rubbish and personally I wouldnt use the Mobile either.
Cheap and quality are not two words that work well for engine oils.
Full synthetic for your FF is the way to go, its once a year job unless you are doing a lot of milage.

So out of them which one would you go for.

I use Valvoline Syn power XL III.
You have a highly stressed (tuned) engine, Castrol Syntech is specified.

If you use semi synth or worse still mineral oil I would suggest halving the service interval.

I was only going to get the fully synthetic stuff. Just stuck as to which choice to go for. Valvoline are good as well so can't argue with your choice pal Current Cars -

Just had a look in the handbook and it just says use a 5w30 oil meeting specification ACEA A1 or A3 or API SJ or SL.
Why couldn't they say they recommend Castrol X Current Cars -

Anyone else that would like to chip in with their thoughts. I have chosen all of the above on the specs of meeting the following -

Engine oil - V8 Petrol Supercharged vehicles
Use a 5W/30 oil meeting specification ACEA: A3
(with API SL or SM).
Land Rover WSS-M2C913-B preferred(This has now been superseded by WSS-M2C913-C)

To close the thread. I ended up going for the Fuchs Titan.
My choice after reading the specs and doing my research.

Thanks for the info, I followed suit and ordered the Titan Synth plus K&N oil filter from Opie ( recommended, quick delivery free cos over £50 order) and changed the oil yesterday, fairly easy with her up on ramps on drive, once trays removed, but boy does it gush out, luckily was prepared but still managed make mess ! Convinced engine sweeter now,( mind the black stuff that came out didn't look like it had been changed when I was told it was)!

Glad I could help. I had to get mine done at a garage for warranty purposes but big shout out to Elite Land Rover.
Engine sounds smoother even though the old oil was only in for 3k miles.

I find using the Form A Funnel makes no mess whatsoever. One of the best accessories I have bought. I bought mine on Amazon.

What a brilliant idea, I'm going to get one for the workshop. Many of the Briggs-engined ride-ons have an oil drain plug situated inboard of the chassis which means oil can run back under the engine where it drips out and contaminates the drive & deck belts. I've had to shape drip-trays cut from old oil cans and tilt the mowers up at the opposite side to prevent this – but it all takes more time and adds to my already well-developed irritability quotient.
