I looked into this a couple of weeks ago and for me it came down to the Mobil 3000 vs Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A5.

So long as it meets the right ford spec you should be ok.

Mmmm, Magnatech is rubbish and personally I wouldnt use the Mobile either.

I use Valvoline Syn power XL III.

I was only going to get the fully synthetic stuff. Just stuck as to which choice to go for. Valvoline are good as well so can't argue with your choice pal Current Cars -

Just had a look in the handbook and it just says use a 5w30 oil meeting specification ACEA A1 or A3 or API SJ or SL.

Thanks for the info, I followed suit and ordered the Titan Synth plus K&N oil filter from Opie ( recommended, quick delivery free cos over £50 order) and changed the oil yesterday, fairly easy with her up on ramps on drive, once trays removed, but boy does it gush out, luckily was prepared but still managed make mess ! Convinced engine sweeter now,( mind the black stuff that came out didn't look like it had been changed when I was told it was)!

I find using the Form A Funnel makes no mess whatsoever. One of the best accessories I have bought. I bought mine on Amazon.

What a brilliant idea, I'm going to get one for the workshop. Many of the Briggs-engined ride-ons have an oil drain plug situated inboard of the chassis which means oil can run back under the engine where it drips out and contaminates the drive & deck belts. I've had to shape drip-trays cut from old oil cans and tilt the mowers up at the opposite side to prevent this – but it all takes more time and adds to my already well-developed irritability quotient.
