So I finally bit the bullet, bought a new BCM/BCU from Ducky Dan and downloaded the special programming function kindly supplied by those nice people at GAP Diagnostics. (See my previous posts)
BCM/BCU replaced, re-programming function run and (after having to re-synch the keys) everything seems to run normally EXCEPT:
- the front wipers don’t work
- the lower tailgate doesn’t open on the switch.

No faults show for the tailgate, but for the wipers I have the following faults in the Body Processing Module which re-appear straight away after clearing them:
0x49 Wiper enable relay: open circuit
0x4b Wiper speed relay: open circuit
0x30 Wiper switch potentiometer defective.

The only fuse I’ve found for the front wipers is No. 26, which is OK.
Likewise, I’ve checked fuse 86 for the rear tailgate central locking and this is OK also (the upper tailgate opens normally).

I don’t know what else to check Has anyone any ideas, pretty please? The wipers in particular need sorting quickly …

I'd interpret those faults as the bcm not seeing the wiper motor in anyway. I.e. Disconnected cable or similar. Either on the stalk or at the motor.

Are all the wires connected ? V8 or else ...

fisha: thanksfor your help! As far as I know all the wires are connected as it all worked properly before I replaced the BCM. I had to undo all the BCM connectors of course and then plug them into the new unit. The plugs seemed to go in correctly ... It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

As it's a new BCU it may well be in transport mode, if it is just take it out, if not put it into transport mode then take it straight out out again, you never know it may work.....

I was told as well that some changes can sometimes take a day or two to take effect, something about the Range Rover bending to your will

fisha: you were right on the money!
I have had enormous help from Patrick Meilleur (Patrick’s the best!) at GAP. With his help, the problem was identified as most probably coming from the middle connector on the BCM, C0661, which includes the wiper wiring. I pulled the BCM out again, unplugged it all, inspected the wires and connections, put it all back very carefully and – bingo – I have wipers again!
And my steering is back to being finger-light. Only time will tell if replacing the BCM has also cured the other related problem, the intermittent problem of the rear doors not unlocking with the remote. I am confident, though

However, I now have some other, niggling problems after the BCM replacement which are most probably to do with the CCF settings. But I am sure those can be sorted, with Patrick’s help.

I really can’t stress enough how good GAP have been. I know others have praised them before – as have I – but they do seem to go beyond the call of duty. The after-sales support and service is outstanding and should be enough on its own to make the IIDTool the best and first choice of diagnostic tool for our Fatties. It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. Just for the sake of completeness, these problems are all now fixed
It turns out one of the 3 BCM connectors wasn't fully home, despite the clips supposed to hold them firmly in place ...

I couldn't agree more.

I had the wrong cars software in my BCU and Pat spotted it right away and uploaded the right software. It's been fine ever since.

Their after sales service is second to none and is worth the purchase price of the IIDtool alone.
