Which coolant 4.4 petrol M62

Pretty sure it's going to be OAT stuff but wanted to check first. Was in europarts yesterday and I asked the chap to look on the system for me and rather than check he told me 100% for sure it's the blue stuff. I said to him I was pretty sure that's for older engines and not to be used in modern alloy engines etc and he just said, no just make sure you flush old stuff out and replace with blue, it will be fine. Based on his recommendations I didn't buy anything, wanted to check I was correct first as I think it's the pink OAT. 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography

I agree about the Jag engine but his Range Rover has the M62 BMW engine circa 2003 same as mine, and mine has the blue....

Do'h. ive got pink in mine (m62) Shocked

however, if you are buying from euro car parts, ask them the price of a 25 litre (might be 20 litre..) as it comes in much cheaper, and handy to have. i think it was about £35 against about £20 for 5 litres. and dont buy the mixed stuff.
just get yourself a jug to pour it at low height, as its too heavy....-for me anyway!

Mine has green. Use a Glysantin G48 Type "A" Ethylene glycol, Anti-Freeze Anti-Boil HYBRID (HOAT - Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) based inhibitor system that is Phosphate, Amine and Nitrite free

I'm using (in Aus) Penrite 7 YEAR 450,000 KM Green Coolant http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?...oducts=756

The owner's handbook says:

Quote:
Engine cooling system
Use Texaco AFC coolant, if unavailable, use any ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing no
methanol) with only Silicate based non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors. Use one part anti-freeze to
one part water for protection down to -36° C.

The workshop manuals says:

Quote:
Anti-freeze
Use only ethylene glycol based anti-freeze
(containing no methanol) with only Organic Acid
Technology (OAT) corrosion inhibitors, to protect the
cooling system
CAUTION: No other anti-freeze should be used
with anti-freeze containing OAT corrosion
inhibitors.

Confused I am Whistle

I thought that if you used the older blue stuff in modern alloy engines it causes corrosion and eats away at the alloy? 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography

According to rave as long as the antifreeze is ethylene glycol based containing no methanol but has silicate non phosphate corrosion inhibitors then it will be ok.

I got the following from the data sheet for Euro car parts triple qx blue antifreeze -

Triple QX Blue Antifreeze Concentrate is an ethylene glycol based engine coolant concentrate formulated meeting BS6580 for use in all engines including those constructed from aluminium alloys. It employs established inhibitor technology and is nitrite, amine and phosphate (NAP) free and includes borate and silicate.

So it looks like the guy from euro car parts was right as long as your not mixing different types.

Ok that's some useful info I've had, glad I posted now. Think I may use OAT then as its long life but then that is silicate free. So does it need to have silicate or not? 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography

According to rave it must have silicate non phosphate corrosion inhibitors to protect the cooling system.

Mine has pink/orange stuff in it since I got it. I asked in a motor factors abut it and he told me to use the one that you can now mix with anything. So think I will just top up with water if I have to Whistle Declan
