High level brake light fading

Hi all I see a lot of the older (mine included) ff high level brake lights faded and Matt coloured not shiny deep red like they once were... I've tyres polishing but no luck - has anyone fixed this without changing? Was tempted to spray some lacquer on

Some plastics (quite rarely now) are not uv resistant and you get surface fading of the colour pigment when the part was first moulded plus the plastic starts to break down.

It really depends how deep the fading has gone, however it might be worth trying something like T-cut or windscreen polisher (used to remove wiper marks & shallow scratches, Ive used this on my Octy vrs plastic headlights with good results).
The screen cleaner is the finer paste so I would start with that, then a quick polish.

If the above doesnt improve appearance there is always a breakers yard /ebay or if your feeling brave a main dealer.

You could also try sanding with +1000-1500 grade W&D then a spray of lacquer? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink
