"CHECK SIDE LIGHT"

A number of times recently, I have got a BONG warning to "CHECK SIDE LIGHT".

I put on the IID and it confirmed the error as the left front side light.

So, I just need to replace the bulb, right?

Well...

I DID check the side light and it was working. When I turn on the lights, it's there, along with all the other exterior lights. I've cleared the warning a few times, but it returns.

???

So. I'm getting a warning for something that's working. Any ideas?

Is it worth getting a new side light? I can't imagin they're very much $.

Help and explanation would be much appreciated.

PS Anyone know the part number for the side light? Thx Bow down

I'm no expert with the iid tool, but I think if you turn off the hot / cold monitoring, the bong doesn't sound.
someone who has a better knowledge than me may help. Thumbs Up

I have to give credit to lr, as the bong of doom always seems to work, it's the one thing that never breaks down.
I've never seen a second hand or new bong for sale. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Okay. Solved!

I couldn't figure out why I was getting an error when the bulb was good.

So, the red arrow shows the "side light". It's the side light because it's on the side of the car!

The green arrow shows what I call the "running lights" (US term: "parking lights"). That one turn out to be out. Evil or Very Mad

Sorted.

You'll have to put that one down to UK /= North american english!

We use sidelight for the small lights that mark the sides of the car from the front - it's a hangover from prewar years where the main lights were normally inboard of the wings. The yellow lights (your red arrow) are normally called side markers by us (we don't have them on UK spec cars). A small but important difference Smile

I had a similar issue with mine, it turned out to be the bulb holder terminal had been arcing due to a bad connection and burnt away enough to cause the intermittent bulb out, easy fix but took a while to find it. 2007 TDV8 VSE

I've had the exact same problem it sometimes comes on then goes away, i did the same and checked lights but all worked. my wagon seems to just pick a random fault and go with it for a while then fix itself then pick something else to go wrong, feels like its trying to tell me something either standby for a monumental problem with the wagon or its just laughing at me trying to figure out what the problem is then just as ive got near fixing it, it disappears!!! Evil or Very Mad
