Washing your FFRR is a good way to look after her.

I have been thinking of this idea for ages and finally got around to it today


Have you ever thought about Water rates that you get charged for ? - Rain water is FREE !!!

I got a 400 liter Heavy duty drum + Water Butt Tap with Hozelock Connector and thought can I connect the heavy duty Karcher pressure washer ( High pressure washer HD 13/18-4 SX Plus ) to it and hell it works brilliantly.

Out of interest I washed both FFRR and looking at the butt used about 2 buckets of water per FF.

So if you pay water rates this is another way to get FREE "CHLORINE" / FREE WATER totally free

The only thing you have to do is wait about a minute for the water to flow to the jet wash - press trigger to get water in the system then power on - as easy as that
one thing I will do tomorrow is connect a small filter inline iwth the hose - in case any C**P come sof the bard roof - but it worked very well !

Been using rain water to wash cars for years. Nice and soft, doesn't leave white spots all over the car.

Got wo underground 17th century watertanks 8000 liter each, could start a carwash...
But it's true it is great to wash your cars with rain water. Much softer, no stripes etc.

This is going to sound weird.......

If it happens to rain on a clean, newly washed car in this area, the rain spots leave a sand-like ring so the after rain, the car is dirty!

If it happens to shower on and off for a few days, the car ends up taking on a baked on sandy/dusty appearance......


Which is why I used a DI Vessel and not rainwater.......that and the fact that our tap water has a TDS reading of between 312 and 324 (very hard water).

We have a 9,000 litre rainwater tank behind the house but the Karcher pressure washer doesn't seem to like the low pressure from the tank - so I've given up trying to use it. Ron B. VK2OTC

I use this method and it works great stops all the nasty white spots

what in-line filter are you thinking of using - I think I should fit one but not sure which type to use
found this one on fleabay item number:221412544899 do you think it would do the job ?

Phil various other LR's this one is still the best

I rarely use a hose to clean my car these days. I clean my cars with chemical guys quick detailer and two microfibre towels. It takes me 15-20 min including wheels. ______________________________

If you really think you have saved 2 buckets I don't think it has saved you much money. Must be talking less than £1.
You still have to pay drainage fee's.

If you want to save money, get a lighter car!


But seriously, I would fit the filter. Don't want to knacker your pressure washer all for saving a few pence.

I can only think - just ensure the pipe is lower than the tap output ( the tank we have is mounted about 3 feet off the ground )
with the amount of water in the tank - there's quite of bit of pressure with the water volume pushing down ).

Hi philbathurst

I thought BIG and put in a massive Tea Strainer as this - looks impressive and so far works very well

I ve placed it in the top near to the inlet inside the tank about 2 inches from the max position, secured in place by alloy sleeves so it cant move ( but you can lift it out ) - watched it in action with very heavy rain and water only went half way up the strainer - so it kept up with the flow.
Its easy to lift out and clean any debris if required - didn't want a little filter as it would get blocked ( rangie is big so is the filter )
