I agree he should try that. For me the slightest coolant leak smell jumps out. Perhaps it's the higher temp the 4.4 runs at and maybe the td6 runs cool enough to miss it. |

Mine had a hairline crack in the expansion tank; took me a while to spot it as the leaking coolant evaporated from the tank surface. |

If that exhaust is blowing then you will get discolouration like that from the combustion gases mixing with water from the road etc...

It is a starting point to check. Nothing looks wet and traceable. Try running the car around for 20 min or so. Shut off and see if any coolant is there. Check every 10 min as it cools. |
