Been there, done that....got well confused....

Spent nearly £200 on a cool box.

It's only live when the engine is running and until the dash goes to sleep after, or you lock it.

Manual is wrong....

Yep, the manual is wrong. However, you have a massive 100 amp feed in that cubby which can be used to power the socket, via an appropriate fuse of course.

And welcome to the forum....

It changed on the 2010 model year I believe. Manual must have not been updated.

You can change it with a bit of a rewire, but as the car seems to struggle to keep power to the clock without causing a flat battery, I've left mine..... I use the cool box with a couple of ice blocks in it and it's fine.... Not that that's any use to you unless you are powering a cool box......

USB is powered as are all the other multitude of aux sockets but all turn off after a few mins , If I'm away for weekend on pushbike I tend to want to charge phone up on a night (use viewranger on it for mapping ) and a 4.4 TDV8 battery charger is a bit excessive !, I might just hard wire (via a fuse ) another aux socket in somewhere that's easier to access as the boot socket is covered by over the top boot liner (we have 2 collies ).
