very loud under acceleration

Hi all
I have recently come from a tdv6 disco to a td6 rangerover, and have been a little surprised at how loud the td6 is under accelearation. I first thought hole in the exhaust, but it is real quite when just revving the engine. it sounds more like a big v8 revving whoch is not what i expected.
ant body any ideas why it is so loud?

Mine was noisy when accelerating, especially when cold, it was mostly engine or intake roar though, as it had a k&n filter on it, which makes it louder. Never noticed much exhaust though.

It def sounds more diesel like than the 2.7 in the Disco, but then the engines must be nearly a decade apart development wise.

Not too bad when rolling along, but from a standstill you could tell it was very much a diesel. Good engine though. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Probably the viscous fan I would guess. Check it hasn't locked up.

Viscous fan is a good call, mine on the disco is a noisy as a noisy thing when it's cold. Eases off after a little while though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

hi, how do you check if the fan is locked up? the noise is quite loud under acceleration, but not there when cruising or just revving in neutral.. it sounds like a big performance exhaust but that all looks normal and in reasonable condition, with no obvious blow points..

Assuming i have located the correct hose (front left of engine, about half way down probably 2.5" in diameter, the pipe seems quite soft for an intercooler pipe. is it possible it is collapsing under acceleration, so causing the engine to strangle itself?

unlikely to collapse itself as it is under positive pressure, when boost is applied. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If a viscous fan locks up, then would it not cool more than is required?
mine seems to be running all the time

To check fan, get a rolled up newspaper and try to make confetti with it, start engine from cold and wait about 2 mins, then jab away, you should be able to stop the fan pretty easily if it's working, if you decorate yours and the neighbours drive then it's seized.... Thumbs Up Pete
