Transmission fluid leaking

Left my car in the car park for 5 days until today, when I went to the car, I noticed that there was a lot of oil on the floor under the car. Luckily one of the guys working in the car park went under to car to trace the leak and he said that the oil is coming from the transmission.

Anyone else had this problem before?

I need to order some gaskets and small parts from L.R UK. I emailed the parts department of Lookers P.Royal earlier today but never got a response. Can someone give me a contact so I can order the parts I need for my car? (BTW I am in Malaysia and L.R Malaysia won't sell me any parts cos i did not buy my car from them! silly but true!)

thanks! '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey

I had a small amount of transmission fluid on the driveway and when I got underneath the pipes from the gearbox to the cooler were badly corroded and weeping fluid.

They were so corroded I reckoned if I touched them they would fall apart.

Was working away from home at the time and was going to get the pipes and take them home on the plane with me but they are quite a length and are preformed.

In the end got the dealer to change them and the gearbox sump plate as well.

I suspect it may be a bigger job then I initially anticipated cos there is a lot of oil under the car. maybe it's best I get a mechanic to come over to check it out so I can order the parts from UK. Thanks for the tip Ian! '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey

How much were you charged for the whole repair? Replacement of sump plate alone was it expensive? '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey

Total cost was £774 inc labour.

That was pipes, cooler, sump plate, fluid, gaskets and fittings/seals.

I think the sump plate was only £25 but receipt is at home, will check tonight.

Ian, was it not necessary to replace the gearbox filter also?

If the sump is off you are as well changing the filter at the same time. That is a good price for the one on ebay as it will cost you around £100 from LR

i was also told by my mechanic that the transmission needs some special expensive gearoil ... and lots of it too@! I wonder if that is his way of gently telling me to expect a big fat bill?!! '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey
