Left my car in the car park for 5 days until today, when I went to the car, I noticed that there was a lot of oil on the floor under the car. Luckily one of the guys working in the car park went under to car to trace the leak and he said that the oil is coming from the transmission.

I had a small amount of transmission fluid on the driveway and when I got underneath the pipes from the gearbox to the cooler were badly corroded and weeping fluid.

I suspect it may be a bigger job then I initially anticipated cos there is a lot of oil under the car. maybe it's best I get a mechanic to come over to check it out so I can order the parts from UK. Thanks for the tip Ian! '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey

How much were you charged for the whole repair? Replacement of sump plate alone was it expensive? '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey '06 4.2 S/C Buckingham Blue/ Parchment '15 5.0 S/C SVA Loire blue/ Black |

Ian, was it not necessary to replace the gearbox filter also? (as in http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LANDROVER-RANGE-ROVE...721wt_907) '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey '06 4.2 S/C Buckingham Blue/ Parchment '15 5.0 S/C SVA Loire blue/ Black |

i was also told by my mechanic that the transmission needs some special expensive gearoil ... and lots of it too@! I wonder if that is his way of gently telling me to expect a big fat bill?!! '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey
