From the Morris Marina Club ....

For a car that was once sold in its millions, the Marina and Ital was classed as “The rarest car in Britain” by The Sun newspaper. 🤔🙀 As a club we want to PRESERVE the cars by helping owners find the right parts for their projects, get the correct information to restore them and promote the Marina and Ital as a usable classic car for every generation.

Mick, I think we all know they weren't exactly usable when they were new. Reliability worse than a FFRR, not a lot of comfort, my 1.8 TC, which wasn't exactly a slouch, came on 145 tyres so it had all the cornering ability of a supertanker, that crappy trunnion based front suspension rattled like the clappers of hell, a radio that faced the passenger, vinyl seats which were freezing in the winter and skin removingly hot in the summer. Christ, it really was a POS.

Hindsight and rose tinted spectacles do tend to produce some rather skewed memories. It was, and remains just another awful feck from BL. If it was a horse they'd have shot it.

I remember always being told that British Leyland were the inventors of the seat belt.

It's original purpose being to hold the sides of the car in place.

I'm kind of surprised that's all its worth - I guess not the rarest or most desirable, but even so.....

It's basically kept up with inflation - £686 in 1968 is just over £10k now.

My mates old man had one of these a Ford Corsair remember as a kid we thought it was some sort of car from Thunderbirds 😄😄😄 must have been because of the front of it ...

My Dad had a Ford Corsair as well! It was a 2 litre bou only the DeLuxe model, I wanted him to get a 2000E but he couldnt afford it!

They also did a Corsair GT which had an extra binnacle on the dash with extra instruments!

Really pedestrian friendly front end on them!!
After that he got an early 70's Vauhall Victor FE which I think had the 2.2 litre engine, known as 'The Walzer' as in 'the loder you scream the faster we go'!!

In the 70s I regularly drove a Victor FE. It was one of the unmarked surveillance cars we had. Wink

and just a week later, with a finacial recovery, nearly complete, and a few big guns, taking the bullet....we are talking about our old cars....

todays headlines, are tomorrows fish and chip wrappers.

Back off topic Wink hopefully correct thread this time Smile

I went to look at a Morris Marina Coupe that was for sale with a mate many moons ago. The guy wanted £50 for it, including road tax, which was superfluous at the time.

My mate asked how much he wanted for it without the road tax, the guy said £20, to which my mate said:
'It ain't worth 20 quid mate, we'll give you a tenner for it!'

The guy said ok, so we scrabbled around in our pockets and came up with £10 between us & drove away in our new pride & joy, which my mate used to drive the daily 10 mile trip to work for over two years until it finally gave up the ghost.

Great British Leyland engineering Thumbs Up
