Hmm. The Marina ute looks very Datsun 1200 ute-ish

In the UK we got the Datsun 120Y which would have been the equivalent I think. Much better mechanically but rusted just as rapidly as the Marina. There were no common platforms back then either so the Marina was indeed 100% British Leyland.

Yep, we had the 120Y, too, but they were somewhat later than the 1200.

A common mod out here for he Datsun 1200 is to fit a warmed up Morris 1500 engine. If one looks at the Datsun 1200 engine, it look just like a Morris engine.

I bought this new in 1971 and sold it in 2008

Just to maintain continuity with this thread - my Dad used to have a Morris Nomad - a derivative out of BMC in Aus - somewhere in 70's as best I can remember. Used to tow our little caravan and strangely always overheated in 40C days, had to run the heater the whole time - just what one wants - before AC was even thought about.

I, too, had a Nomad. I kept a bottle of Hydrolastic fluid at home and a modified brake master cylinder to attach to keep it pumped up - shades of my P38A!

SOHC 1500cc engine. It wasn't a bad little car overall. I bought it dirt cheap from a chap at work who was sick of it and hadn't used it for some years because of recurrent gearbox problems When I got it home I found the nuts holding the cable shift to the gear lever had worked loose so gear changes weren't too good. I tightened the nuts and all was well. I used the Nomad for my 120km commute to work in Sydney and the Hunter was my wife's daily driver.
