In my case - loss of PAS fluid - simple to see in the engine bay (can't remember where but it's in the book, think it's the pink reservoir but check).

Servotronic transducer valve or Body Processor Module , if you get the codes read it will probably show short circuited on servotronic valve and open circuit . 2008 MY Supercharged

Offside wheel arch tucked in tight above the steering arm , bolts usually corroded and will shear when you try to remove them so it will be out with the Dremel to cut them . The main problem is there is no clear way to tell if it is the valve or ECU so you change the valve first and if that doesn't do it you change the Body Processor Module and that has to be a new one and programed to the vehicle but this is possible with an iiD Tool. 2008 MY Supercharged

Duckworth Dan is you man ( site sponsor here) It's a very simple job , just unbolt the passenger seat and under the plastic flap on the floor is the BPM . Do you have a diagnostic tool to copy and swap the setting from the old unit to the new unit ?

The transducer is the servo valve, if that's OK then it is probably the BECM, pretty sure I remember someone had a problem with it's earthing bolt which is at the bottom of the "B" pillar on the passenger side, you have to remove the seat and carpet to get at it I think... They had a bad earth that stopped the power steering working, others have had faulty BECM's...
