Wifey took boys to NFL.

Whilst one was training, my other son watched a DVD using the RSE.

I get a call to say the Rangie won't start, battery is dead.

So, my question is, would watching a DVD for a couple of hours really drain the battery that much, or is the battery on its last legs.

My mates Toyota does. So on the basis that Toyota copy Land Rover, I thought the same would be for mine

You can get some more life out of it by adding a 2nd battery in the boot. I did this on an 07 VSE and it would still start after a couple of hours. You can get a Gel battery for the front of 105ah and a similar one for the back of 60ah. Both will deep cycle and still give a start at 70% discharge.

Those are a UK supplier but you should be able to find similar in Oz.

RSE does NOT shut down like the front screen when the battery gets low

As Stan says, the car should be left running whilst RSE is being used! Handy if you leave the kids in the car without a driver hum...

The RR is barely able to power the clock without draining the battery over a few days, I am tempted to add a second battery in the boot. Tom

Mine has the second battery in the boot (courtesy of dan_1984_uk) and have never had a prob. Original LR battery too! Now over 7 yrs old!

Not an isolated experience, I and a friend have both had similar experiences. Makes you worry though - implies 20-40A average current drain just watching the telly... approx 240-480 Watts. My mac mini and 7" TFT screen drew around 10 Watts playing a DVD.

I've just spent £200 on a decent cool box that heats and shuts down if battery gets low - I thought might be handy if I buy milk at dinner at work as I can't be bothered to call at the shop on the way home....

Beginning to think it'll run for 5 mins and then shut off due to battery..... Could be money not well spent.....

As Dolphonboy pointed out, the 2nd battery gives another 60 or so amp hours. My Engel was left on pretty much all the time and never caused a problem. Mind you, if yours has a Peltier unit it will draw a lot more current than a compressor fridge does as the compressor turns off once it's down to temperature.
