fuel additives

Hello all,

I haven't used a fuel fuel additives since Dec 2015 and would like to give it a go again.
I was using Redex Diesel Treatment 500ml over 2 tank fills but was wondering if i should continue to use the same brand or is there something else i could treat the car too or better yet dont use any other them? Confused ..

Yesterday I was doing some research in to VW Touareg Turbo problems.... and I discovered that they are very common, and that by adding some 2 stroke oil in to the fuel these problems can be reduced / fixed Shocked So having seen this post, do you think that I can find the page again Censored Censored ..... But I did find this..... bit of an eye opener..... think I'll give it a shot, or should that be 2 shots Laughing Laughing

I used 2 stroke oil in my Defender TD5 and it ran a lot better sounded better and when i took it for MOT the emissions where a lot lower than the past two years !! Cool Cool Range Rover vogue Td6

Ive been using this Millers additive on my bmw e92 325d for the last 3 fill ups and have noticed the engine to be slightly quieter and also less smoke/soot out of the exhaust on start up. All based on observation rather than any technical/quantitative measurements.

Just been doing some more 2 stroke diesel reading and the general consensus of opinion is use MINERAL or MINERAL + Synthetic.... but never fully synthetic, as it don't mix with the fuel and costs shed loads more.... Cheap is best Shocked Shocked Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I always used a bit of 2 stroke oil in my old 300TDI Discovery, it ran much better and kept everything cleaner in the engine department. Never used it on the fatty though, as have tended to use the Diesel Injector Cleaner additive instead. May give it a go, though, as I do around 500 - 600 miles per week.

Erm, on the serious side, there is a whole (long) thread on Disco3 about the use of 2-stroke in diesel. The BG244 stuff is a well regarded fuel system and engine cleaner but they have a different product for regular use. I think 244 is too strong to use all the time.

Millers only needs a capful per fill up which is a considerable saving over Redex.

They also do a treatment for EGR valves which can be used in small doses as a preventative or in a single hit for a clean out.

The argument on whether or not the diesel additives are any good or not is as big a can of worms as the argument on supermarket fuel versus premium fuel.

I've just started using CRD by Cost Effective Maintenance.

Was a bit dubious, but I'm amazed at the difference even the first dose has made.

Engine is noticeably quieter and less 'rattley'

Show me a fully independent report, not subsidised by an O+G company Wink

FWIW, I run it in my D3, Td5 Defender and the wife's FL2, as well as a few previous cars. Every one has run smoother, quieter and improved fuel economy by a small amount, as well as produced less smoke. And, with current ULSD, any additional lubrication going back into the fuel system can only be a good thing Thumbs Up
