Mine has been miss spaced for circa 20 years never been stopped nor failed an MOT more surprisingly

its 440 Oxx & I have always had it as 4400 xx - the xx being my initials - it was cheap, usually on a Defender so on the back looks like

4400
xx

Yes you are always going to think its 44zerozero rather than 44zero then the letter 0, but sadly traffic cameras pick it up correctly I have the speeding tickets to prove it.

Just my personal experience Paul
L405 now sold

TBH, taking the initial example of FF5 5TUD, illegal as it may be, it's more memorable like that, so it's probably beneficial to everyone. As long as the actual letters are the same and correct in size, I don't think the spacing really matters at all. The fact the law says otherwise may mean it is a slight issue for human recognisation if pre-known, but if the law permitted it, everyone would expect it and no-one would bat an eyelid. if i could have had a pint of beer for every stupidly paid price for number plates, i would be happy. (and seriously ill!) its so barmy, and you only have the 'right to display' etc. when you see certain numbers, costing more than a house, its almost like the kids story, 'the emporers new clothes'
i have an old super sized jag, known as the 'jaguar 420g' (1960's) its huge. recently, there was a dvla auction, for the ideal number, and it was in fact '420 G' it had not year marker, so could go onto my car... seeing as there are only a few hundred of these old cars around, and that the best one would be worth 10,000 quid, unless its a museum piece, i was almost dissaponted to hear, that it sold, with its fees for £11,500. barmy!
here we are with many people not able to afford housing, and huge numbers on minimum wages, and there are pots of money being paid to the DVLA just to display the mandatory number on their cars!
when i see old black and white film, of cars driving around in the sixties, i laugh, and look all around, many, with a 2 grand worth number plate. on an old van! i remember as a young driver, hearing about the veteran cars, with their one letter and one digit plates, being worth more than the vintage car it was on. more so now.

however, you only have to remember, that the car itself, normally deteriates, in value, to absolutely nothing. (currently £10 a ton in scrap.- look how that has gone haywire!) but the plate -if eye catching, seems to head the same way as property. -and has the storage space of, an envelope.

I like the idea of 3 strikes and your plate is gone back to the DVLA.

Why it bothers people so much I have no idea!!! Actually annoys me that people get so hung up about it!! You must have nothing else going on in your life if you get annoyed or frustrated about somebody else's number plate. Censored

Well, most ANPR are fixed and therefore incapable of tugging anything Whistle

But in general, can read mis-spacing OK as long as the legal font is used.

xF 11 UKU looks like it would be a legal plate.

I was thinking more of the sentiment being expressed by the spacing !

Ah - OK - it would need to be a traffic car, ANPR would recognise it, but not the sentiment....
