Just an observation I would have thought that people with FFRR would be a little above silly illegal number plates. I'm taking about people who have spaces in the wrong places and things like that. I have noticed in a lot of pics here that people have these plates.

Why do people do it, its a MOT failure, illegal and carries points.

Just interested to hear others thoughts on the matter.

For example a legal plate of FF55 TUD people then have it spaced as FF5 5TUD I mean whats the point.

Number plates have never really bothered me, its something you have to have and i would never pay the government anymore money for something they force you to have.

But i can understand people wanting to personalise things and having there own plate, but if you can't afford the right one then why make an illegal one.

Maybe just for fun? Not everyone is an introverted bookkeeper. Some people might even fancy a red or pink RR. Some spend fortunes at "upgrading" their Range to a newer year with headlights, grills etc. Let them have their fun. You don't have to. Being judgemental about this kind of fun does not place you any higher on the social ladder. Oh and by the way I don't have a privat nr. On the car, although I have one on retainer, that came with the car.

I'm not against people doing whatever they like and i certainly don't follow the rules, i'm just trying to understand why people like to tinker with plates and the spacing thats all, not trying to cause offence or upset anyone just looking for peoples thoughts.

Its no difference to discussing colour personally i don't like green cars but plenty of people do and they might not like grey cars like mine its just a conversation.

By and large, it's water off a ducks back to me these days. The example you use, FF5 5TUD, is harmless fun even if it is illegal.

However, from another perspective, Swansea are happy to charge more for that number than they would FF5 6TUD, for example, meaning they don't condone but are happy to reap the financial benefit.

These mild alterations are fine; it's the ones that, for example, shorten 7s or add coloured screw covers that I object to i.e. the ones where you really have to work at reading the correct number.

They are all illegal

I think the police should stop 'turning a blind eye' (as seems to be the case most of the time) and apply the law consistently rather than 'when the mood takes them'

Then at least everyone is clear about exactly where they stand if they choose the break the law - I just can't believe how silly some of them are

my Mrs has been in traffic for over 22 years and they have enough work without pettiness of plates to add to list, only if its really altered will it be pulled quite few make people smile but it seems a few are more like victor meldrews on the road, there's more to worry about in the world than a piece of plastic  _____________________________________________________
