Easiest way to install a second battery is the way that Dan did here Thumbs Up

The L405 comes with dial batteries as standard - so LR must have understood the issue & responded - albeit a few years too late.....

The second battery is exact the same as the main battery. In fact I did install the old one (replaced it and checked afterwards that it could keep voltage good when not connected). The battery is fitted in the rear right fender (where the tow bar used to be). A brief description of the work I did is found here:

See if I can make some pictures of connections.

Hi Allistair. Definitely the easiest way is how Dan did this. I did it the same way, and it is really easy. When I did this I also connected a main switch in the negative (earth) cable. That way it is always possible to isolate the second battery from the main one. I used to keep them isolated all the time and only when I suspected that there wouldn't be enough juice in the main i connected them. Worked like a charm, but still a bit stupid to first get in the trunk, pull the switch and then get in the car. To leave them always connected isn't a good idea either because the one battery will drain the other if they are not exactly of the same condition (and they never are). I had it fused with 60A (didn't trust the positive cable to get the start load) and that one was blown (I think because the car hat sat for a week and was started when batteries where connected.
So I wanted another fit out. The one suggested with a VSR has all the advantages without the negative sides. The only thing is that you have to run a quit thick cable to the back of the car.... Confused Confused But never regret I did Very Happy

battery installed; in bottom middle you can see the main switch which can isolate the earth connection from the second battery at any time.

main switch

VSR with connections: thick red cable left comes from front main-post alternator and has a black fuse holder with 100A fuse in it; thick red cable right comes from second battery, has also a black fuse holder with 100A fuse in it; small black cable left is earthed and fused with in line fuse 3A; double red cable on right is one coming from starter motor solenoid and other comes from FBH signal (white/green cable from FBH receiver), in these both cables I have soldered a diode inline so that starting does not ignite FBH and vice versa.

small red cable connected to starter solenoid (connected on the connection with the thickest of the two small cables)

this starter solenoid cable is routed behind the motor block and goes into the battery space. The thick black cable where it is tied to is an extra earth cable that I already did before for a good earth connection between battery and motor block.

Here you see the thin starter solenoid cable enter the battery box from the left together with the extra earth cable. The thin starter solenoid cable is routed directly to the second battery in the rear. The arrow indicates the thick cable connected to the alternator post. This is the cable that is fused with 100A and connected to the left VSR connector.

I sometimes think this is what you need in an FFRR but with the batteries connected in parallel.
