Here are a few pics of my DIY attempt. I have a 80 channel uhf Oricom unit, tiny, not much bigger than a pack of cards with controls on the Mic. The Mic lives between the console and seat but when in use on the clip. The clip just pushes between the dash vent so no holes if removed. I made the aerial bracket, it looks quite flimsy but is in fact rock solid, I put a small piece of rubber on the bonnet lip which pushes down when closed. The grill can easily be removed. I ran the Aerial cable through the grommet behind the battery.
After a bit of use I am very happy with the usability in the selected location

I'm currently looking at mounting an Icom IC450 and would love to find a bonnet bracket like the ones in this thread does anyone have anywhere any to sell or somewhere I can get one?

Cobber I will take a punt here and say I doubt that they are available commercially.
There are very few bits for the FF on the after-sales market.

But if you have a hammer, drill, angle grinder and a vice its easy to fab up yourself

take you about hour an half from start to bolted on the car all painted up.

Or alternatively take a copy of the one you like off here pop into your local engineering
shop and ask them to fab one up for you.

Yeah unfortunately apartment living doesn't allow me the footwork shop I'd love to have.
I have a fair few tools but not as easy.
Just thought someone might have made a few.
Would be cool to get a few made up for other owners.

Throwing another idea into the pot...

The existing "shark fin" on the roof which houses the GPS antenna for the SatNav looks fairly easy to remove. There's wiring holes there which route down into the rear boot space where all the fuse boxes are.

I don't do CB or Ham stuff but I've an interest in electronics and have longer term intentions to have the car fitted with a small PC (raspberry pi) to do RF stuff; mostly LoraWan and related 868mhz/433mhz stuff for triggering gate controls etc.

I'm planning on 3d printing a new "shark fin" for the antennas to be mounted - sprayed up in the right colour it should look OEM and mean I can return everything to stock if it doesn't work/I get bored/sell the car etc

I've installed a QYT KT-8900 on the top of the dash with double-sided tape. The 2m/70cm Diamond NR-770H whip antenna is on a bracket (previously used for my UHF CB) jutting out through the grille.

I'm not happy with the antenna location (performance wise) and may install it on the roof rack using a folding base - perhaps a motorised folding base, e.g., Diamond K9000 Ron B. VK2OTC
