Call me a cynic - but that I would like to see - I could accept that it would work from the car being slightly below being able to fire the car, but 'completely flat' takes some serious juice and even most jump leads aren't up to the job.

I'd be inclined to agree, but in the video, it shows the guy starting a V6 toyota multiple times, with the main vehicle battery disconnected.

And if the jump pack has been left in the freezing car that may well affect it's efficacy. And a cold diesel whether it uses it's glow plugs or not will take a lot of effort to fire when cold, either the plugs will take a load of juice from the battery, or it'll have to be cranked repeatedly to get the compression temperature up enough to fire it.

It has to be better than those things that do it though the cigar lighter on the other hand. Shocked

When my 4.4 TDV8 battery was completely flat the pack carried by the LRA technician didn't even prime the ignition, it needed a few minutes on the leads from his D4 before it responded. The second time it happened the LRA technician had a van, VW I think, and that started it sooner, he said the output from the van was higher than that of the D4, but the fact that the battery could not be revived on the first occasion might have been a factor too. Apparently the higher output was a reason for LRA moving to the vans, I am afraid I had suspected D4 reliability Laughing Laughing .

I see that a number of the products mentioned on the thread say they are for diesels up to 3 litres, so I would be less confident about them with a 4.4. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I had a jump off a small starter pack in the isle of wight ferry Q a few years back, started the 3.6 from a little bit flat (had been sitting listening to the radio for a while) was only a cheap unit the chap had, and worked, but only just...... had to sit in the car with it running on the ferry as it pulled out of port to charge the battery.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It looks the same as this one I have saved but look at the feedback numbers!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00YDZR3ZI/ref=...&psc=1

Again, it does say for up to 3l diesels though.

4.8 out of 5 and 181 reviews!

That's good feedback for sure.

I'm temped to buy one of these mini jump packs rather than the clarke 4000 and the Ring RPP 265 mentioned at the start of this discussion

Battery jumping aside, those packs are also ideal for keeping about ones person in case of ones phone / iPad / laptop running out of charge.

I use mine for just that when I'm ever in one of my cars without a cigarette lighter socket or the socket adaptor.

Also, you can keep these things in a rucksack, handbag, etc and are therefore highly portable 'just in case', unlike the larger dedicated units. One doesn't always suffer a flat battery at home. Si. <This is my name.

The mini/micro booster packs certainly looking interesting and much better/easier to keep in the car than some of the big packs (assuming the reviews are accurate!).
However, I've had one of these for a few years now (Sealey have replaced with newer versions) and it's successfully started 4.8 TVR engine from completely flat on numerous occasions and has also started the FFRR twice now after overuse of the the side steps have prevented the car starting (although battery not completely flat at that point)

I have one of these small power packs with 300A start current, 600A (3s) peak current and although it seems to start small petrol-engined cars with no problem, I've never been able to get it to make my FF even cough:(

....and my iPhone doesn't like the Lightning adapter provided either, MY 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE

Also available on the Bay of E

[quote="ije44"]Just to add to the mix, I bought one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HTZ...&psc=1

and it starts the TDV8 from completely flat.

I bought one of these from Amazon at a cost of £54, only to discover the same item on Ebay at just £32 incl post!
At that price, I think everyone should have one of these tucked away in the boot!

would be interesting to know whether the ebay one and amazon are actually the same item or Chinese copies of each other. The Amazon one is branded, the ebay one isn't. Ebay one from seller based in China (despite the location being 'Derby') whereas Amazon supplier is London based. The two machines also have different specs 13600 vs 16800 too. THere are so many of these packs available now, it would be really good to know which brand and which supplier are the best ones!
