Alloy wheel damage

For the first time ever I have curbed my alloy wheel. A ridiculously tight entrance to a multi storey car park, and this was the result. I'm quite gutted of course. Big Cry

Can this be fixed and who does this kind of thing? Any idea of cost?

Many outfits will repair them. If you want a localised repair, they can do it 'at your door'. If you want the tyre off and the entire wheel refurb'd, they will do single wheels that you can 'post' or leave with them, in either case if you have a spare.

For a cosmetic repair to the rim/ face I've paid between £25 and £40. For a tyre off full refurb, I've paid between £80 (20" wheel) and £120 (18" diamond cut wheel).

London rates might be dearer although you do always have the postal option. This firm is well known although I've never used them:

You could also try asking the dealer you bought from (if near you) or another quality garage near you, who does their alloy refurbishments, in the unlikely event nobody on the forum recommends someone.

They will have to remove some metal to repair that properly - so likely you can only get these rims repaired at most twice?

Thanks for the replies - I had in my head that these diamond cut alloys were impossible to repair, so good to hear that that isn't the case.

And as for only doing the repair a couple of times, I think that should be fine. I've no intention of ever visiting that car park again.... Sad 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Yes those are diamond cut and yes it can be repaired. However the only problem is getting an even colour match of the inner spokes to match the colour of the other undamaged wheels.

You could just wait until another gets damaged and get them both refurbed at the same time, or buy another wheel and use the other as a spare? 2014 SDV8 Autobiography Cool

I've got exactly the same wheels and had them refurbished. Not any wheel refurber can repair these diamond turned wheels, only those who are specifically equipped to repair diamond turned wheels can. To match the colour perfectly you could send your spare wheel along with the one to be repaired so they can match the colour exactly. It is not hugely expensive, I had them done in France so the price I paid won't be of much help but be prepared to pay more than you would for a non diamond turned wheel.

I too did something similar this week, but the tyre has a massive lump out of it too. Even bigger problem is that the black pack wheels have two colours and the first place I asked just said it was in effect double the refurbishment cost as they would need to mask, paint and rebake!

The first quote was £260, I'm in shock and SWMBO has ,rightly, pointed out that new tyre and a wheel refurb in the week before Xmas is not in the budget.

Had the car four wheel tracked on a Hunter alignment system which revealed that although the front alignment had not been affected the rear was showing far too much toe-in on one wheel. All done and feels more agile.

A good repairer will weld that before they grind it back to its original shape... Then refurbish/refinish it... Have seen these refurbed many times over... Thumbs Up

I have the same wheels & did the same on a local toll bridge when squeezed by a lorry Big Cry

I thought I might just wait till I could get a single wheel at a sensible price & use my grazed one as my spare.

This might be a stupid reply (I'm not sure if the spare wheel is a space saver type on the L405), but why not just use the damaged wheel as the spare?

Not a stupid question, but you need to specify a full size spare (I have) and pay for it. So for some it is a space saver. Then there is the conundrum, do I put the immaculate spare on the car so it looks good but risk damaging it and having three half worn tyres and a new one?

Mine is now running my 20in wheels (the off road set) for the rest of the winter. Ride is so much softer, but grip is compromised.

Craig, you will recall that inspected my first car with 20s but the SC was secondhand and came with the black pack and the obligatory 22s, which of course I need for the 155mph top speed on a regular basis Very Happy





So now do I keep it on 20s as is,
paint them black
put back the 22s,
or find some 21s.
