OK, I know this is a very personal question, and no doubt just a little daft too, but .... getting others' thoughts is part of what makes a forum so useful - right?

I'm ready to change my 322 for a 405, question is, do I do it now (order a MY16 model) or wait to see if the MY17 will get a facelift?

I had a 405 on test drive a few weeks back. Really enjoyed it, in just about all respects compared to my 62 plate 322 (which of course is a great car). However, one thing which seems to be holding me back is the prospect of the 2017 facelift getting a more appropriate infotainment system for a £100k car.

It's a relatively small thing I know, and I'm not sure what's holding me back about it, but I just can't land on a decision. I don't really care about the possibility of 2017 LED lights etc, it's just the infotainment system which, whilst better than the 322, just isn't quite where it should be - yet.

Any thoughts?

When will the 2017 be announced; July -September?

Doesn't seem long to wait for the one thing that would play on your mind and be the reason for future regret if you went ahead now.

I have the same dilemma - and posted a similar thread a week or so ago.

I have my eye on a used one and have watched it at the dealers - the price has dropped nearly £10k in the last 8 weeks.....so the used prices are collapsing....suggesting either over supply (lots of early cars now coming off lease)...or that the dealers know a facelift announcement is imminent??

I think prices are dropping because of more availability rather than a facelift . Of course this is just an opinion .

Hi, I've been looking at cars for the past couple of months before buying the other day but I've not noticed prices dropping like stones. Over-priced cars can certainly drop to sellable levels but I'd be interested to know what car you have been interested in to drop that much?

I've actually been monitoring the prices of several cars at two different Groups (so they each have several cars)

as an example this car - was £97k 8 weeks ago - so its dropped more than £1k per week in the last 8 weeks.....and there are at least 10 others I have seen that have dropped an equivalent amount.

They had a sub 300 mile late 15 plate car with a big spec that sold for £86k this week.

Hi Dealmaker, thanks for that but that's exactly my point. The car was ten grand too expensive two months ago.

I appreciate that it's got the upgraded hifi, which is nice but having had that in my AB I personally am more than happy with the standard 825 watt system. And there is a very nice Corris 15 plate with 12k for £80,000 on the LR site.

There is always a new and better one just around the corner.

I think you need to think whether the current one is "good enough" or whether it's lacking a feature you really want.

The new Discovery Sport. IF I were buying one, I'd definitely have waited for the new engine. It sounds like a significant improvement.

On the L405 some people have mentioned they are waiting for the sat nav/radio/etc update. It bothers some. Others don't care. Decide what's important to you, then buy when you find a car that fits those criteria.

The one that I've pointed out has actually got just less than 10k miles more at 12,500 miles and both have 21 inch wheels. In three years time that ten thousand miles won't be anything like £8,000.00 difference in part ex.

My point is that I don't disagree that most cars when they get to this age soften in price but they aren't dropping like stones, yet! just one or two very overpriced cars have come down to levels where people might give them a second look.

You are obviously concerned about the possible loss in depreciation and that is a fair point but then a Range Rover is never going to be a car to shield you cash in the long term. If you are nervous about it choose a couple of year old one that's already lost a chunk in depreciation as it will still have a Land Rover warranty for two years if bought through their network and its value has got less distance to fall.

I think like most things it is a case of supply & demand.

The dealers until recently had a smaller supply than the demand that had kept prices to be honest very high for an expensive car.

As we all know the more you spend the more you lose.

Supply has improved due to ex LR management cars filtering into the system, the first leased cars filtering into the system, the mild winter is ensuring prices are not hardening, the net result it a number of dealers are probably looking at the stocking cost of some of thier stock & deciding it would be good to move it on so prices of nearly new to 3 year old vehicles is softening.

Personally it depends what you want from your infotainment system, I want to listen to music & make/receive phone calls it does an excellent job of this, not as good as my wife's one series in that the memory is not as big, but it does the job.

Would I have expected more from a £100k car probably yes does it bother me at all definitely no. Paul

I think dealmaker is right a 15 4.4AB with low to delivery miles can now be bought at under £90k all those that are mid ninetys to a hundred are well over priced !
