The Grom unit will allow direct connection with charging via lead, and full streaming via bluetooth, and both have steering wheel control. And you can run an ipod via the lead and connect a separate phone via bluetooth at the same time. It will pause the ipod during calls, and switch the steering wheel controls to the phone, at the end of the call it all goes back to the ipod where you left off.

It is a bit of a pain in the butt to pair the bluetooth, but I have a link that explains how to, if you go ahead Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

There is a member in here called Baris who updates the bm54 amps and adds Bluetooth and aux leads, his website is http://www.carphonics.co.uk/

He did mine and I can say it works very well streaming from my iPhone 6, it acts like a Bluetooth speaker (doesn't display on head unit though)

Have a search for some threads on here about him

Thanks!
I have actually spoken to him but I think the Grom solution suits me better.

Thumbs Up If you have any Banging Head moments, either post on here or drop me a line and I'll do my best to help you Thumbs Up

Here's the link for pairing the unit to your phone

Although if you have the phone ready to go (pairing mode) before you plug in the wires (3Pin Connector) the unit will go in to pairing mode for 3 minutes when first plugged in, after that you'll need the link Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

No problems Buddy, although I must warn you that we were all stupid enough to end up addicted to Range Rovers.... some places that would be grounds to lock you up in a padded room Laughing

So why go mad by yourself? spread it around and we can all go nuts together Rolling with laughter Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

France 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Giverny Green

This is an interesting thread re the Grom units but I still have a couple of things I'm not yet clear about. I've just bought myself a 2002 L322 TD6 Vogue, It has the Sat Nav, the CD Player & DSP. Will the Grom units work with this combination. I'm happy to loose the CD Player & probably wont bother with the SAT Nav as its so out of date, But I'm pretty desperate to get some sort of auxiliary input working. As a British ex pat in France I very much rely on my Phone (android) for streaming good quality BBC radio when I'm on the move.

I hope someone can clear this up for me before I buy & I'd love to hear how you Deffender got on with your install.

Cheers

Nigel

The Grom Bt3 unit Replaces the CD Changer and allows you to connect a phone via Bluetooth, which will give you hands free calls and live streaming from the phone, **PLUS** you can add an ipod via the lead, this will allow you to control your ipod from the steering wheel and still receive calls from the paired phone Very Happy Oh and it will charge the unit too Thumbs Up

And all for the princely sum of £100 and the loss of a next to useless CD changer Mr. Green

You Need The BMW X5 spec unit with the BMW-T cable harness BUT you will only need the SHORT AUX leads for ipod or audio, as the Range Rover has the CD changer in the glovebox not in the boot like the X5 Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thank you Miggit for your speedy response. My main concern was as to whether it would work with the DSP as it seems many alternative units wont. I think the best thing I can do is get one ordered & into the car.

Cheers, Nigel

I had hoped it would be an easy DIY job but it is not easy to remove the CD changer.
Apparently you need to disassemble the glovebox, remove the CD changer, attach the cable to the Grom (and fasten the Grom to something) and finally reassemble the glovebox.

Assembly and disassembly of the glovebox is doable but I read on the forum that it is a lot easier if you've done it before.
I am now waiting for my mechanic to do it for me.

I was thinking as the CD player is basically a defunct piece of kit & that once its out I can't ever see it going back in, maybe I should just sacrifice it. IE go in through it until I can get it out. I know it seems a bit extreme but what the hell will I do with it once its out? Just bin it I imagine. Any thoughts, before I get the Chain Saw out! Wink

Whistle You will find that this link will give you all the know-how direct from L/R http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/co...oupId=1666 Wink

And the Grom will work with DSP Razz

Basically it replaces the CD changer and fools the car into thinking that the CD Changer is still fitted, but substitutes the sound from your ipod or phone . So if you have DSP or logic 7 and your car is NOT a touch screen nav unit, the grom will work as if it were the CD Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thankyou for clarifying that miggit. I'm currently trying to decide between going down the Grom route or going for the BM54 upgrade as can be done by Carphonics, as I don't particularly want to be pulling the dash apart. I'm capable of doing it, Id just rather not.

Cheers, Nigel
