Air suspension problem

Air suspension has been messing about for the while in that it was slow to raise. Purchased a compressor repair kit and fitted it. Now it likes to raise to full height at the rear but not at the front. Sometimes it will raise the front to standard and sometimes not. Looks like a dragster and sometimes is extemely hard ride. Then when you get out it seems as if it is venting from the front drivers wheel then sometimes it will raise the front. Plugged in two diagnostics machines and no faults found. Sometimes it will come up with the inactive warning as well. Don't just want to throw money at it until I find the problem. Any ideas??? Stuck valve of something ???

Thanks

Could be a height sensor playing up, bring up live values from them and go for a drive round, see what they do, they won't be the same as it depends on the sensor but the differences between them should stay the same.... Pete

Shocked Sounds like you've a hole in ya bag Shocked
But could also be a fault with the front valve block, that is located behind the plastic wheel arch cover on the drivers side, might pay you to remove the cover and just check the valve block for any obvious faults / leaks, if that is OK then I would say it's safe to say that the air bag / strut is holed. Another thing that you could try is a strong fairy liquid solution sprayed around the air bag, if there is a hole then you'll get lots of bubbles Shocked

Sounds like height sensors may be sticking. They can get rusty and stiff in action. They are pretty flimsy devices. I had problems with one of mine so I took it off and used a bit of WD40 on the joints and loosened them up. that worked as a temporary repair and confirmed the problem before I bought new units (very cheap - about £25). I don't think it would show up as a fault either, as they system is actually working but just fooled into knowing the actual height of each corner as the sensors are not operating correctly.

I aslo had a similar problem at the rear once, when one of the units broke. (the metal "leg" separated from the plastic end piece). I managed a quick repair bodge by wiring everything together with with a piece of copper wire). Remember, the height sensors only measure height. They don't perform any other suspension function, so don't have much strength in them

I have had leaking airbags in the past. Any sizeable leak will normal make an audible hissing sound (especially at full height). No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

The sensors are about £50 now for genuine rears and £70 for the front ones...

All FF's will at times, vent from the front or back when you have got out and shut the door, it means the suspension is working properly and levelling itself, what he heard was totally normal.... Pete

Yes Joe, you are right. I paid about £25 for my rear ones. There were not original equipment but they only work as a measuring device after all. They are not a highly stressed component Smile No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Mikeyjd, where did you get them, I couldn't find any pattern ones when I needed one and as you say they are just a cheap hall sensor, nothing special about them!! Pete

Cheers for that, just bought the other two for mine as I dare say they will go soon... less than £50 for both delivered and they appear to be genuine parts...

Top job
