2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Giverny Green

DIY Umbrella Holder

Having been bemused by the price LR charge (£99) to hold an umbrella in place on the underside of the rear loadspace cover I thought I'd have a go myself. This is my solution for anyone that may chose to have a go.

Materials,

Two elasticated Velcro straps 300mm long
Two 50mm aluminium discs
Four 12mm long self tapping screws
Bottle of Superglue

I chose to polish the exposed side of each aluminium disc and drilled two 5mm dia holes in each 10mm from the edge.

I shortened each of the Velcro straps to an overall length of 200mm including the buckle using Superglue instead of stitching to form the return over the buckle.
Be very careful if you chose to do this to get the Velcro straps the correct way round.

I positioned each of the Velcro straps on the rear of the aluminium discs with 40mm of strap/buckle protruding to one side and glued in place.
Again be careful to get the Velcro straps the correct way round.

You should end up with this.

I measured the thickness of the rear loadspace cover which is 14mm thick and chose 12mm self tapping screws to fix the discs/straps in place.

I determined the position the position of each disc on the underside of the loadspace cover and lightly marked the screw holes with a bradle. I then put a blob of Superglue in the rear centre of each disc and the corresponding positions on the parcel shelf and screwed each disc/strap into place. Be very careful tightening the screws, the panel they are screwing into is fairly soft hence the Superglue to additionally hold the discs/straps in place.

You should end up with this,

With the umbrella in place,

That's it

With a saving of approx £95 on LR's price.

Section of polyplumb pipe laid in the angle of the boot held in place with velcro. In fact cut the one section in half and you've two sections of pipe, cable tie together and storage for two umbrellas.

the Jaguar umbrella holder strap kit is only about £23 from main dealers. Part number C2C5101.

I'm not saying it's better than your home made kit, but for someone who doesn't want to spend the time making one.

Personally, I'd rather use velcro than a buckle - something like this would be perfect -

I use it all the time, one side sticks to the other - you just cut it to the length you want - it doesn't fray - fantastic stuff

and if you wanted leather straps, a couple of nato pattern watch straps would do the job.

^^ I think you're right - I just checked and atlas in the L405 there is an almost perfect little shelf that would take 2 umbrellas in opposite directions -

The rear seats don't tumble over in the L405 so they can stay there - that would be the only concern in an L322
