New ECU fitted but it can't be programmed for some reason? Shocked

Dealer is keeping me updated but I am now entering week 4.

What is classed as a reasonable period of time to fix a car? Especially one that is less than 5 months old and was £80k+

We all accept that manufacturers have an occasional problem with a car, it is how they deal with the customer when they have those problems that differentiate between the good & bad manufacturers.

If not already done, I would PM Ryan/Pete from Landrover to see if they can exert some pressure from the other direction.

We have had it before when a dealer has no idea what the problem is & throws parts at it until they get lucky & replace the offending part, all the time causing disruption to our business with breakdowns - they eventually replaced the vehicle after we kicked off - I should say not a LR product

I think after 4 weeks - "you don't know what your doing" might be my cry, along with "fix it or replace it" Exclamation but I suspect you have already been having those discussions.

Good luck Paul

The current guideline for JLR seems to be if three attempts to rectify a specific fault have failed, then after the third attempt you are in a position to:

If purchased from new, reject the vehicle at no cost to you if it is less than 6 months old.

Over six months but within a specific time band and well within warranty, make a contribution (by negotiation) towards a new replacement on a like for like basis.

It really depends how well the dealer supports you as to what the outcome is and probably varies on a case to case basis.

This type of problem will soon be covered by law and make rejection a more common fact of this business.

So probably a whole bag of lemons on to come the used market.

Should help make manufactures more attentive to their quality control and inspection at production, rather than at the dealer. Whistle

I have spoke to Ryan a couple of times and I believe its been escalated to engineering. I have lost all confidence in the car, its definitely a Friday afternoon build.

The good news is I got my car back this morning, the bad news is that it took almost 5 weeks to repair which IMHO is unacceptable. I have been informed that the delay is down to JLR engineering analysing data from the vehicle. I am waiting for JLR to offer me some sort of compensation. I hope this brings an end to this terrible experience. Thumbs Up

I am not sure, I also complained to LR finance so identifying who pushed it along would be difficult. I also question if either had any effect, 5 weeks is a long long time, too long in my opinion. The dealer gave me updates but they had to wait for updates from JLR engineering.

I cant believe this is still on-going - its got to be money back or replacement surely - I'd be talking to a solicitor or consumer protection - its nothing short of a joke.

Many would probably agree. Always interested to know what effect LRCS have, if any, in more serious cases.

Hopefully you will resolve matters in a way that is satisfactory to you Thumbs Up

The law states that I have to have the same issue three times or they try to fix it three times. There is no hard and fast rule on how long they can take and because they gave me a similar car I don't have a case in the eyes of the law. There is something coming into force on the 1st October I think, that means they have one time to fix it. I am waiting for LRCS to come back to me and I will post an update when it happens.

Re the three attempts point, that may well be part of the LR warranty terms, but that does not prejudice your rights under the Sale of Goods Act. My recollection is that in the context of a purchase from a LR dealer if you have a major problem within 6 months then you have the right to return the car and get your money back or a replacement car either:
- within a reasonable time of the defect becoming known to you; or
- if you choose to have the car repaired, if that is not done within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you.
I'd be surprised if LR would offer meaningful compensation, but wish you well with it (and the car itself of course). Only Range Rovers since 1988
