"Restricted Performance" error message

Hi all.

First time poster so please be gentle and apologies if this is in the wrong section...

I have a FFRR 2010 and have recently been getting multiple error messages which first say "Warning Restricted Performance" and then "Active Stability Control Not Available" and then a number of other error messages in a cycle. I then have very strange and pretty non-existent throttle response.

This is becoming more frequent and tends to happen when I am doing anywhere above 40/50 miles an hour and go for some acceleration (for example to overtake). As you can imagine this is pretty disconcerting as it usually therefore happens on dual carriageways and main thoroughfares. The only way I've found to deal with it is to pull over and restart the car. When I do so it asks me to "reconfirm ride height" and then operates entirely normally.

This has started to become more frequent so I was wondering whether anyone else had this problem and could shed any light?

A brief Internet search suggests anything from a bad battery to a bad cable in the front left side (can't recall which cable now!) it is pretty noticeable however that it only seems to happen under hard acceleration and when the car is already doing say 40/50.

On a similar note, can anyone recommend a good independent in central London or greater London? I normally get my car looked at by Guy Salmon Sheffield where my parents are but don't particularly want to undertake a 160 mile motorway journey with this sort of issue....

Any help or guidance massively appreciated!

Sounds like it could be the adaptive dynamics cable running to the top of the struts, wears through and can cause suspension issues. Not sure if it would cause the restrictive performance issues though. Might be worth checking the turbo pipes in case one has burst (more common in the 3.6 though) but not unheard of in the 4.4.

Both can be checked with minimal tools, so worth having a go to try to identify

Look at this re the adaptive dynamics fault:
http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic22949....mics+fault

The symptoms are as you describe if a turbo hose has gone, foot down = bong, on the 3.6 it comes up as engine system fault, with no throttle response and a restart sorts it for a few miles. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Any black smoke ?

The turbo hoses usually result in a nice little cloud being left in your wake.

Did get a bit of smoke with mine on the 3.6 too, but not masses. The top turbo hose on my 4.4 had a bad seal on it and was blowing past the seal on the the throttle body end. New hose for £70 seems to have sorted it, no loss in performance or errOrs though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks guys. Just to clarify although it's a 2010MY the car is actually a 3.6TDV8 so maybe it is the turbo hose. To be honest I haven't noticed a plume of smoke. Main dealer or independent to fix this - any views? To date it's only ever seen a main dealer but as I said I've never seen one in London and my experience to date has not been great

3.6 then it's most likely a hose they are notorious for splitting - cheap fix Thumbs Up

Possibly 2 separate faults though as the suspension fault sounds separate to the reduced performance to me. If the cables on the strut have frayed through the it's possible a dealer may do it under a service bulletin, I would check it first, the damage will be obvious once the black cap is removed (if that is the cause) then call the dealer and try and get LR to pay for it as its a known problem. Worth a shot. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks so much guys.

Took a look in the engine bay and yes indeed, the right hand side hose had a great big crack in it. Tried to repair it with electrical tape, amalgamating tape and aluminium reflective tape which has helped somewhat, but a few long journeys have resulted in the tape melting away and a noticeable lack of power returning.

Car has been booked in for a repair job so I'm hoping it is only this which was the issue.

Thanks again - my first post here and the swift responses were precisely on point. Great resource!

^^ Top advice - they are only something like £30 each so definitely worth doing both if it's going in for the work to be done.

Anyone know if you can buy a silicone replacement kit for the turbo? Mines got a nice split in it!
