Valley Pan Leak?

In prepairing to do the front differential fluid I noticed a little redish drop coming from the transmission bell housing rubber inspection port. I don't know or find the official name or purpose for this rubber seal. At first I was thinking transmission before remembering the 5HP24 fluid isn't red. Pulled on the rubber seal to get a splash of coolant. IIRC this is from a leak near the back of the engine or valley pan.
What are the common leaks that cause this? Is there a way to inspect the valley pan without the teardown?
PO said he did the valley pan but reused the original with RTV. He also did not change the rear hoses or PCV. All about 15k miles ago when he did the water pump, timing chains, solenoids. Thanks.

2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Epsom Green

There are coolant hoses at the top back of the engine that feed off to the heater. They come from a manifold just above the bell housing so when they leak it drips down through the bell housing. The typical one to go is a short stubby one that converts from the manifold metal connection to the standard BMW plastic coolant hose clip connection. There are a couple of others but the short one is usually the culprit.

To give a better idea of the manifold position here it is with the intake removed, its at the back (don't worry you can get to the hoses over the top of the engine without removing the intake manifold):

N.B. Not an L322 but same M62 engine, the hoses at the back are different on the L322.

It could be the valley pan gasket but I think the drain hole for that is at the front of the engine, doesn't mean it won't find away down the back but I would check those hoses first.

There are also gaskets where the manifold attaches to each bank of the block, they could also weep so worth a look there too. As said though, that rubber pipe is the usual suspect, it's not that expensive either.

Just to add have you had the water pump changed recently? It's possible the metal pipes that run from the front to the back through the block V have been disturbed as they can be pulled out if not careful when changing the pump. If not cleaned up and new O-rings installed it might leak from there.

I'm going to order one to be on the safe side but I am confused by the picture in the link thread. Part number shows the plastic tube without the tappered rubber water hose most of the time. Are these separate parts? Which section usually leaks? Thanks.

Looking online the part number should include the plastic connector and the rubber adapter pipe which goes onto the manifold, it's the rubber pipe that splits. Certainly the parts manual shows it as all included under the one part number. There are a few different pattern part makes out there which might explain where the differences in what's included comes from. Given the small cost difference I would just go for a geniune LR part then you know it's right.

I would check to see if that's where it's leaking first before ordering, it literally is a 5 minute job. Remove the engine cover (4 turn buttons), then unbolt the heater air intake (I think just 2 10mm or 13mm bolts either side) and slide up and remove. You can then see the hoses over the back although you need to probably kneel on top of the engine to get a good look (bonnet in access mode might help).

Thanks weejock, since to the best of my knowledge this part has never been changed I'm ordering one now just in case. I tried finding a BMW equivalent but it seems to be Land rover specific so around here its dealer only. A unique place that can only look up parts by VIN. If inspection is that quick I can check this morning.

5 min job? Never that lucky. OK yes getting to it was a 5 min job. The bad news is that that hose is fine. Coolant puddle at left (facing engine bay) rear valley pan bolt. What is the consensus, new pan with sealant or reseal old pan?

Also how safe is it to drive assuming I bring coolant and check level?

Second to lastly the oil separator was pinching off a smaller hose that passes along the same path as the narrow end. I corrected that but anyone know what that hose was for?

Lastly I found some oil running down the right exhaust (facing engine bay). I have some video I will post on YouTube later.

This is a picture of the pinched hose. Also can see the coolant puddle. Its the shiny white line I circled.

Short video rear hoses looking for coolant leaks. All hoses felt dry so I assume the Valley pan puddle is from the valley pan. Anyone have a clue on the oil leak?

Pipes "look" fine, difficult to tell, do they feel spongy..?? PCV valve looks very clean, possibly been replaced already..

That oil leak looks like it's from the cam covers... give it a clean off, quick run and check again.... Pete

The pipes feel good too. I agree about the PCV. But if it does go it doesn't feel that cramped to replace later. I'm wondering if that crimped hose is a water line or just a vacuum line. If it is a water line and the pinching caused a pinhole leak that may be what I see as valley pan leak. You're right. I better be sure.
