I haven't got overheating problems as of yet! But I'm not the biggest fan of viscous, as they very regularly seem to half work, i.e. they slip and don't shift all the air that they are supposed to Shocked

While sitting in miles of traffic the other day, praying that the car wouldn't totally self destruct, I did here the fan engage, but it seemed to go quirt as I pulled away, as if it was OK below 2000 rpm but gave up the ghost over 2000 rpm. Got me a wee bit concerned Shocked

Anyway now that i have limped it home, it would seem to be pointing towards a fubar'd injector Sad . But at the time of Sod's intervention, I had just climbed up a 3 mile hill towing 2.5 tons, and I thought that heat might factor in the engines demise. Plus I was beginning to wonder if the the temp gauge was telling porkies, as it never went over half ( suddenly remembered how unreliable the shogun temp gauges were, when they read hot the engine is already in meltdown Shocked ). So nothing to really worry about, other than the car has just developed a bad case of clutch judder.... and I haven't got a clutch Shocked Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... The temp gauge reads "what the driver expects to see" (same for most cars these days) it will get to normal at around 80deg and then not move of normal until it gets to well over 110deg, this is for the hot running petrol, not sure on the diesel... maybe an idea to stick an actual gauge on the engine and see what it's doing...

Good luck with the filter/injector... hope it's a cheap fix... my old petrol classic had a similar issue and that was the petrol filter so hopefully you will be lucky... Pete

well.. it's in and working. Wasn't that easy, I think the td6 engine is a little longer it was a tight fit and had to do some trimming on the fan body to get the inter-cooler hose back in place. But overall it was not that difficult, thanks for your help. cars on the side;

322 Temp gauges are sent the instruction as to what should be displayed by one of the ECU’s (like the BCU for example) so are absolutely NOT showing you what is actually happening with the engine temps!
It stops owners complaining about oddities as they used to do in the D1,2 & P38 days...

As Pete mentioned, the “normal” temp range runs from about 80 to 120 degree’s! That was also my understanding of the system...

Right hoe then, mental note to one's self, gauge is as good as a chocolate fire guard Laughing

Reminds me of my old Shogun, the gauge read normal right up to the point of thermal melt down Shocked was the cause of many an engine to end prematurely Sad

Does anyone know the safe operating range of a TD6? and wot's the ID of the top hose? I was thinking of using a fixed temp switch instead of adjustable, then I could let it in to the top hose using one of those cast ally adapters for temp sender units. And I do know that it will need adapting, by a strange coincidence most of the switches are M14x1.5, that's wheel stud size, wonder who has that in his tool box Wink

Oh and Good News, I have just procured a complete fan assembly with all the wiring for £20.50 Mr. Green I just love fleabay! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Never had much success with the fixed temp switches... either comes in too early or late... an adjustable one and you can crank it up a bit if doing towing etc to keep the engine cool rather that waiting for it to get hot.....

Get one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustable-Elect...2c84fd874c

Cut the top hose in half and use one of these....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Alloy-Alumin...2c759e2647

Works fine on mine.... Thumbs Up Pete

Pete, out of interest what have you got yours set on? I can see that it could be an advantage to have it adjustable, but I'm wary about a) the quality of the switches as they are from Ping Pong, b) getting a descent seal between the hose, joiner and capillary pipe, with out crushing the capillary pipe.

That has been the my number one bug bare about Kenlow, just poking it in to the hose and clamping it up, looks bodged and a possible failure spot for the cooling system. I was hoping to produce something a little more ascetically pleasing. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Right I've just taken a punt on an adjustable switch, found it on the web, not fleabay, and at £12.95 if it's no good then I haven't wasted too much dosh Thumbs Up

Mine is set to high 90's I'm running an 80deg stat at the moment, Top hose temp normally sits around the 88deg mark but does rise quickly when in traffic...

Sealing can be a problem, have you used the little slither of rubber that Kenlowe supply with theirs?? Pete

Kenlow slither? No, cos I haven't got one, but I do know what you mean Wink Was thinking along the lines of a bit of self amalgamating tape or a slither of ex rubber hose. I'm sure that I can find something to soften the underside of the joint Thumbs Up

Oh and I haven't actually started yet, pick up the fans tomorrow, and wait on the post for the switch. Just got to source a fuse and holder, and work out what size joiner I will need after I have cut the hose. As it's silly season for my line of work, I can't really afford any down time, so if I can spare a day to fit I will, otherwise it will have to wait until work goes quirt Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Right I now have everything on its' way, including the Kenlowe seal,

they are like rocking horse poo to find, and even harder to buy, I ended up buying 3, just so that I could check out, as they had a minimum order Evil or Very Mad

I have found that there are only a few places that you can get them from, and most of them really take the P with their postage. So there I was, smug that I'd found a site with £2.50 postage, and the Censored 's got me with minimum order instead Big Cry Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
