Cooling fan control circuit malfunction

My faultmate gave me 2 faults on the engine ecu.
1; glowplug fault which I knew already.
2; the other one is cooling fan control malfunction.
Can anyone shed some light on roughly what this could be.
My fan has been acting a bit strange of late, so could it be the vicious fan playing up.
Thanks

cheers

I've just replaced the fan on mine. Kept blowing the fuse and smoke came from the motor when you replaced the fuse. Is the electric fan actually running? Fuse ok?

In the glove compartment fuse box there are 4 large maxi fuses. It's the 1st one from the left.

I think you are confusing the viscous fan with the electric one. There is a separate electric fan in front of the A/C condenser which also helps with normal cooling if needed (if the coolant temp gets too high). It's a standard BMW set-up, in cooler climates you can even get away with ditching the viscous fan completely and just using the electric fan.

The viscous fan isn't what's throwing up the fault code though.

The electric fan also cuts in if the coolant temp gets too high, obviously it's mainly intended for places like the middle east and med. But even after a hard run when say towing on a UK motorway in summer it might come on if you end up sitting in a tail back.
