Full tank..... Empty Tank..... Full Tank!

Filled up the other day, pretty much to the brim.

Got in today, and the fuel gauge cant make its mind up if its full or empty. Right hand corners give empty, left is full to the brim. Big Cry

Sounds like a dodgy sender, any one have any idea how tricky they are to change? Gonna have a look on rave but i may find that after I've used a little of the fuel it will settle down, or not.

Its not been run since monday so maybe its in a bit of a mood with me Rolling Eyes There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

edit.

Just looked at rave and apparently there are two senders and the dash panel takes an aggregate reading off both sensors and calculates a level.

Either way they seem to be attached to some gubbins in the bottom of the tank and as such require an empty tank to do the job. So i guess it will have to wait until there is not much diesel left. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Ok, thanks chaps.

Looks like a pig of a job to change so if it doesnt fix itself, through a bit of sucking up to the car (wash, polish and hoover) then it will be off to the dealer.

I have just checked the warranty i have and the "sender unit" is included in covered parts the only exclusion is if i have put petrol in the car. which i may have noticed.

I have taken a video of the needle flicking back and forwards so it the tec cant replicate it at least i can show him.

Looking at thread stan has put up, i reckon i may get my moneys worth out of the warranty for this year (if they pay up) as its a fair amount of labour to just get to the parts.

I have done this kind of job before on an old pug i had, was fairly straight forwards once i had gotten to the tank but there looks to be a lot of trim removal to do beforehand on the ff.

Having just been out and switched it on it is now reading full........ was empty when parked up......... it seems to have had a change of heart.

At least i reset the trip when i filled it up last week so i have a fairly good idea of how much fuel is in it..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

After pretty much the whole day not working......

It has mended itself. Possibly caused by a completely full tank, now it has dropped just below full al seems to have returned to normal Rolling Eyes There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

yes it did, was fine for a time but in the end it started giving wrong readings, so i replaced the intank unit, and all is good again. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had a horrible feeling that was going to be the case.

Any idea of the likely cost?

Goes from showing empty to full and then back to empty and so on every minute or so.

I ask as there are two different problems sir... But if yours is showing the same symptoms as above then, that answers that... Thumbs Up
