Check Coolant Sensor

Hi all

I have had the bong and check coolant message since February..

I have checked the coolant and no Loss..

I have changed the cap (given the 145 written under the cap version as per car spec)

I have just had the sensor changed and still the message doe not go away..

The one removed, did not have a black cover on it... The new one did....

Should this be removed... It did not seem to want to come off and we didn't what to break it by forcing it off..

Regards

Hi Trevor,

Yep, been there. Done that. Stymied one mechanic completely.

So, you're got loosing coolant, you have the correct coolant and it's in good condition, and the sensor is good. Right?

I had the same problem (2008, petrol VCool. It's the coolant tank. They can give problems and JLR has redesigned the tank because of it. For me, getting a new tank repaired the problem and there have been no coolant warnings in since the repair (9 months). TOUCH WOOD.

I had my indie mechanic do the whole job for the equivalent of £100 including labour.

Good luck.

Has the coolant been recently changed?

The level sensor spent check the physical level of the liquid, it checks the specific gravity of the coolant. So if you haven't got a strong enough mix it will give a low reading. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That I don't know. Mechanic didn't give me an option, but if it's prone to problems OME is the safest.

just before you go and shell out some hard earned,
just give it a good drive on the m'way.
mine was doing the same for a few days. but after a trip to aberystwyth its now gone. an airlock in the tank maybe? i donno but the fix was free for a change.

Jake,

Thanks,

Done that, My daughter was in Liverpool on Sunday, so has to give it a run out I took her, came home and then went for her a couple of hours later.. running sweet, no temp change and no fluid gone..

Not shelling out just yet.... The garage I use has a tech call in to LR to see if they have a fix....

Had the same problem for ages - checked and rechecked the coolant concentration, etc to no avail. I was using some aftermarket blue stuff that was supposed to be a direct replacement for the OEM coolant. In the end, I dropped that and put new OEM coolant in it and the fault went away instantly.

Found this on Topix

Engine cooling system

Petrol: Use Castrol Antifreeze SF, with one part antifreeze to one part water for protection down to -40°C (-40°F).
Diesel: Use Castrol Antifreeze NF, with one part antifreeze to one part water for protection down to -40°C (-40°F).

Hi Trev

you'll need just under 6 litres to do the job.

so cost for 6L delivered would be £60.00inc vat

Cheers

Ok..

Does that mean it will take approx. 12 litres because you have to do the 50/50 split with Distilled water
