Heater fan not working

A couple of weeks ago, came out to the FF and noticed that the heater blower was not running, despite all the LED's showing as normal. Sad

Rear heater fan operates as normal. read threads on here, checked fuse 12, 34 and the big 50 amp one, all OK.

General consensus then seemed to point to either the FSR (seems to be fairly common), or the motor itself (seems less common but others have had it).

Looking at what was involved, and having removed the pollen filter and got my hand inside the heater body to confirm the fan hadn't seized (it seems to spin fairly freely, but I don't know how free it should be), I took the decision that the first step would be to replace the FSR.

Ordered one from Dan, and fitted it yesterday - using a digital multimeter, before fitting it I took resistance readings between every pin to every other pin and the heat-sink body - I'll post these on here later as they may be useful to someone else who wants to determine if their FSR is OK or not.

Anyhow, Murphy's law - new FSR fitted (with many expletives), but heater fan still not working, and resistance readings on the unit I removed closely correspond with the new one I have fitted - conclusion therefore not the FSR Sad .

I assume I now need to go through the pain of replacing the motor, but I would if possible like to confirm it is actually this that is causing the problem before ordering a new one and buying a Dremel to modify the housing. i don't like the idea of cutting the housing to get at the fan motor, but having read what is involved in doing it 'properly' on the workshop manual, it is a no brainer.

Can anyone offer any advice / further checks i could do to confirm it is in fact a motor fault before I order a motor and go through the pain of fitting it? Banging Head

Many thanks in advance. 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Think I'd check the switch first, just because it lights up doesn't necessarily mean it's working.... Pete

Looking at the wiring diagram there is a Black/Green and Red/Green wire from the switch which switches on the motor, you could test the resistance across these wires to see if it's open circuit or put 12v and an earth down them to see if the motor works...

Will post results when lake Vrnwy stops falling out of the sky down here and it is dry enough for me to work on the FF. 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Just been doing a bit more reading and the heater blower works from 1volt (speed1) to 8v (speed8) so check the yellow/green wire for 12v into the switch then see if the voltage to the motor varies from 1-8volts when you turn it on... Thumbs Up Pete

Final Stage Resistor, looks a bit like a hedgehog and sits in the side of the heater, they develop a fault, flatten the battery and mess the heater up.... do a quick search on it and you will find lots of info and how to change it... Pete
