Brakes overhaul

Brakes overhaul

A few pictures from last week as one of the cars was going for a service last week and wanted to spruce up the Disc brakes and those LR lovely calipers

a spot of wax oil on metal to protect both sides

Calipers taken apart and re painted - new piston seals and brake lines added - forgot to photograph these later

Job done - looks better when you look at alloys Thumbs Up

in case anyone asks - yes I use 4x 10 tonne jacks & 4x axle stands on solid concrete, had to put the car here as it was apart for 6 days while the painted dried and parts arrived.

It amazes me that so many folk - keep there cars mint - but forget about the important parts like brakes

One word of warning the front calipers are now 3 years old - in the winter they get hose washed every time the Salt mans been around in his little lorry

that said - the bleed nipples are Censored in the calipers and when I started to takes these out to renew - I could see the thread problems - this is caused by the Calipers being alloy and bleed nipples being mild steel

Also wash the salt off the important bits in winter - as they get a hammering

Also the brake lines have a 5 inch pipe in various places that join the rubber pipes - the salt attacks these

The car pictured - I replaced all 4 lines ( LR only charged £38 + VAT each line ) - easy to fit and I have now wax oiled the tubes mentioned above to give them a little more protection
As Tesco's once said - Every little helps x

To add to my post

I ve ordered another set of Discs Fronts & Backs from LR

If any one likes this idea of painting these with Black Hammerite heat paint - its a good idea to paint these well in advance so when the time comes to change Pads, Shims & Discs - its a case of just putting on - without the need for 3 days for it all to dry in the summer.

I have even wax oiled the complete chassis - front to back again to give her a bit more protection in the winter months
