Applying RR lettering without template

Thought i would do a quick write up on applying new lettering and the best way i found todo it if your not supplied with a template. Not rocket science but might help someone out at some point .

what you will need:
masking tape
dental floss
de greaser/panel wipe
rubber wheel drill attachment
magic marker

1. Firstly mask around the letters taking one strip below and one strip above getting as close to the letters as possible then mask off between each letter.

2. Remove all letters, safest and easiest way i find todo this is use dental floss

3.Removing the glue, the rubber wheel drill attachment is defiantly the easiest way to get the gum/glue off but it is quite tricky doing this without damaging the masking tape, i had to remove the tape between each letter in order to remove the gum but made some guideline markings with a magic marker so the tape could be re applied after.

4. Give the area a good clean up with de greaser making sure that all of the glue is gone then re apply tape using the guidelines.

5. Apply new lettering and remove tape and admire Thumbs Up I also removed the Vogue and LR badge, i know some people don't understand this but i personally prefer it, much cleaner looking. i have a thing about badges i don't like them and always remove them from my cars however i do like the main RR badge and would never remove that but thats a bit different to most model badges etc

Good tip with the floss, another method is to make a template (before removing them) with some old greetings card and some masking tape, I actually reused the old letters including "VOGUE" and the bar above the number plate, just sprayed them with some silver wheel paint and stuck 'em back on with double sided tape , obviously you can't have the hi chrome finish doing this - but no money changes hands Very Happy

Although I no longer have the car apparently they're still stuck firm and looking good and of course I still have the template Very Happy

I still think the "G" on the bonnet is a bit wonky though Rolling with laughter Geoff

That's going to bug me now, I hadn't noticed Big Cry

I was wondering what colour you had used as I want to do something with the door handles and wasn't sure whether to match the body colour or if titanium or something would match the badges

Never trust the so called template that the lettering sets come in, the first time I used one, I applied it and they were all wonky, much better to do as here and just apply yourself one by one, this is what I did with mine. Discovery 4 HSE

Mark,

Top job, I like how your wrote on the masking tape, in case you forgot how to spell "RANGE ROVER"

I stuck a rear number plate on once and was paranoid about getting it square, spent ages measuring and marking, lined it up and stuck it on.... stood back and started swearing...... doh... upside down !!! Big Cry

Not my finest hour..... Pete

Are there any measurements for the rear lettering ? The badging on mine looks to have been changed and was rather wonky. I have lettering but no template.
Thanks

Any chance someone with a car at home with a tape measure can tell me the distance from the lower edge if the tailgate to the low edge of the lettering ?
The rest I can copy from the front badging.
Thanks

I recorded 1" (or about 25 mm) from the top of the grey plastic tailgate trim strip to the bottom of the letters. 2010 RR SC
