Rotary aero engines died out during the first world war. They are not to be confused with w-a-n-k-e-l engines (hyphons needed or the censorship nazi turns it into a ). They look like normal radial engines but instead of the crank turning the prop, the crank is bolted to the aircraft and the whole engine rotates around the crank. The prop is bolted to the engine.

A truly amazing air/space craft. I remember reading about it as a kid and it was like a fantasy world. 4500mph! I saw it in the flesh at the Smithsonian 9 years ago.
Looks very wierd from the back.

Air Canada described this as an 'incident upon landing'.

AND they had to taxi back to the terminal to use the wifi! I guess even the pilots couldn't afford the in-flight wifi charges. |
