[HELP] Odd coolant drops... then they're gone + other leak!

Hi gang, could do with some help really. A very odd thing happens, here the deal:

Vehicle: RHD 70000ish miles, 2002 4.4L V8 L322

6 weeks ago it had all engine and heater hoses replaced with LR parts + coolant by LR indy.

I drove home; 150 miles away from said Indy and parked the RR in the garage (in High position -so I see if there are leaks!), no leak in engine bay or on the floor. I did not touch it since, so it only drove 150 miles since hoses replacement, but again, I did not see any trace of coolant leak.

3 weeks ago (Rangie had not been driven at all) I noticed quite a few drops of coolant on the floor (never seen any before).

Weather was close to 0 Celsius. I cleaned the floor and put a cardboard piece under it to see where it comes from. I am 95% sure it is coolant: same colour as the coolant in the reservoir and it has a relatively sweet and acid taste (I know…)

Following day: same thing but a bit more coolant

Following day: same thing again with even more coolant!

Then, no more at all, note that then weather was better on that day.

I did ask around, but no one know why it would suddenly leak and moreover why it would then stop. Again with no driving whatsoever.

The coolant traces showed up on the transmission bell housing, then dropped on the rear tube of the engine/front suspension lower tubular subframe, I cannot see where they are from, looking from above the engine.

Coolant level is normal/tiny bit above max, so it did not loose much (see pics)

I drove it last week for 60 miles, temp needle stayed straight up. No coolant loss, no trace of coolant around the expansion tank cap either.

I then took the cabin filter housing off and investigated but could not find traces of coolant. I took several pics for you guys to have a look and see if you can spot a problem of any kind.
I also tighten all the hose screws ¼ of a rotation.

I have been looking throughout the site but cannot find a similar problem.

Please tell me if you have ever experienced this and how you fixed it.

Much thanks

Interesting threads I read though with no luck :

with key to compare size, not that much "coolant", but not normal either!

leaking through the back of the skid plate

See how traces show at the bottom of the bell housing and subframe tube

All above pics shot on the day I discovered this. Again, the Rangie had not been used for 2/3 weeks.

Now the most recent ones, after driving 60 miles and as I took the air filter housing to investigate and retighten all the hoses.

Please check if you see anything wrong/odd.

See anything odd?

Only odd thing I saw a slight (oil?) leak on 2 bolts (gaskets were renewed 1600 miles before)

as it gets colder the pipes/seals contract and you get leaks...warm them up and they expand and no leaks..[maybe Mr. Green ] ... - .- -.

At the back of the engine there are a few hoses. Also the coolant manifold which connects the left and right banks. It has a hose coming from it thats known to fail. The manifold has to aluminium tubes linking to the water pump and they only have push fit o rings. If your indy has replaced all existing hoses the pressure will look for the weak point. I doubt they would have replaced these o rings. Also the valley pan is a weak point that might be vulnerable now everything is new and fresh? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

In your original post 2nd link is mine. The 6th pic shows the 2 pipes running front to back and the manifold at the back with the 2 known weak hoses. Also the valley pan cover is seen with coolant staining down the left hand side. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Mine has done a similar thing on more than one occasion, I'm waiting for it to get worse so I can sort it...

You could get a pressure tester, there not much money, that should find it....

Just for your info that first white breather is from the starter motor... Pete

The early 2002-2003 cars had a 140 cap, mine had a 200 when I got it but Dan checked and it should have a 140.... Pete

This was my leak a couple of years ago.. The hose isn't standard bore, it's a reduction. New part £7, apparently fail around the 10 year mark, mine was 12 years when it failed. Very Happy

Damn, I do love this forum and its crowd Thumbs Up

Edit:

read it al Steptoe, ordering the part tomorrow - though I would think they did change them as I asked them to change every single one of them. Wink l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Here is the said potential faulty hose/connecting pipe, ordered already :

Then something that worries me more, even though the said leak may simply come from the said hose/connecting pipe. I notice traces on the passenger side bank, they are not oily, almost dry really.

They are located at the rear or the right bank (closer to the firewall), on the lower part of the engine block where it meets the transmission.

Anyone able to diagnostic with these pics, let me know please. More detailed video available via email (PM me)

I will thoroughly clean it all out with brake cleaner this weekend then drive 60 miles. check and will drive it back to the indy 120 miles away for investigation.
