have you not discounted the valley pan seal? if you research, you will find that there is a tendancy for the valley seal to leak a bit, and there is an fluis escape path on the left bank. for coolant to run into the bellhousing 'inside' area and drip out on floor, there is a small hole at rear of block, to drain any liquid on the valley between the head and inlet manifold. if you were to dib a small pice of tissue on a long nose pliers etc, towards the rear of the valley you might find that this area is wet. mine is due a valley seal change as has same symptoms.

Thank you John, watched and quite interesting indeed. Wil check for leak there indeed with some paper towel.

Merci Craig, somehow reassuring - we have a 1500 miles Adventure planned and I can not afford to break down during the Adventure. |

its possible your valley seal is leaking and the little hole in back of block is blocked, so it overflows, down outside (and inside) of bellhousing. that hole enables water to drain down rear face of block, round the rear seal and down into the bottom of bellhousing. you could remove the bung and put finger in,(engine off!) to see if wetting is there.

going back to the valley rear bleed hole, (you can see it in your pictures...the tiny pool of liquid, might be coolant, in its boiled down state. ie the water will have boiled off leaving neat greasy coolant? is this being thought of as clean engine oil from rocker covers.?? |
