How do you know if your vehicle has this pre heat thingy ??

All the diesels have it (to pre heat the engine basically)

Good morning. Some of the posts in this thread prompted me to ask this. Sorry its a bit wordy. I had a D3 HSE V8 up untill late last year and moved up to a 2007 S/C with 60,000 kms. I'm rapt with it but when I got it, the auto door lock when driving off didn't happen as I had expected as it did in my D3. No problem I thought, i'll get the service guys to toggle it "ON" when serviced which I did not long after having it. So that is all good now and it does auto lock on drive-away. Now though, when I stop, I was also expecting the doors to auto unlock when I come to stop as it did with the D3. I can't recall on the D3 if it auto unlocked, when engine turned off, or placed in Park, or key withdrawn, but but FFRR doesn't auto unlock at all. So all door handles need two pulls to open, not a biggie but a further thing to investigate.

So to my question - is there a toggle that the IID can provide which does the auto unlock upon stopping?

Peter noting you can do i'm afraid , it's an anti carjacking feature ( whatever) you will just have to get used to hitting the button below the hazard lights switch .
I have an unproved unsubstantiated theory that the reason the door lock cables fail so often is all the double pulling to open the doors so I always use the button . 2008 MY Supercharged

Ok, thanks for that Axle. I would agree with your theory that cable failure is caused by over use - I will use the centre button for the opening function. I'm puzzled about no auto unlock with key removal - it would make sense that if you just removed the key (and maybe interlocked with the Trans selector in Park) then auto unlock would be a logical and safe thing to do as was the case with the D3.

You would have thought but software developers have looked and the unlock feature is not in the software to activate , god knows what BMW were thinking and TFT dash cars can get it I believe . 2008 MY Supercharged

they cant cos that feature isnt in the original firmware...its the same with the folding mirrors, it would be nice for them to fold automatically on lock but this also cant be done.. ... - .- -.

Park the car in a carpark at night. Turn engine off and remove key (D3 unlocks) passenger doors are now open to an assailant... Same scenario in a FFRR and your passenger doors stay locked!

Its the same as "single point entry" It bugs some people... Not others! BUT, is much safer if your wife walks back to the car in the dark car park, presses the unlock button and only the drivers door unlocks... She has piece of mind!

Obviously JLR think that D3 owners are NOT worth robbing!

Scott, Stan is correct. It can not be done (actually anything can be done, but the cost would be more than unreasonable). The IIDTool just provides access to soft switches that do not otherwise have a user interface. The soft switches themselves are programmed into the ECU software by JLR. In order for us to do custom programming, we'd have to reverse engineer the ECU software, modify it, and provide the option of reflashing the new software to the ECU. To reverse engineer the software of even the most simple ECUs requires a time investment costing well into the 5 figure range. This is essentially what chip-tuning (chipping, remapping, etc) is. On the ECM it is justified because, if you are a good tuner, you can sell many remaps at 4 figure prices. Door lock options will not create that sort of demand nor allow prices like that...

I seem to remember from playing with the Faultmate (sorry Steve, didn't know about your system at the time as it was pre-FFRR forum for me) that you can select it the unlock on engine off. Which would indicate that it is programmed in the ECU. Since I don't have access to my 2006 nor do I have it linked to that VIN (it is now linked to the 5.0 SC VIN) I am not in a position to check.

Now it can have changed on the 2007 (mine is a MY 2006 built May 2005) but I'm quite sure it was there to be set. I of course never switched it on in Nigeria as you do get a bit paranoid with all the horror stories of what could happen.

I also changed mine to lock at 6 MPH.

On the 5.0 SC you can select lock on drive away in the dash menu by the way, much better IMHO. Don't know about the unlock though but depending on where I would live I would probably activate it as it is handy to not have to press the button separately. In Malaysia I would set it for unlock on engine of like our niX-Trail. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
