Different cars, different types of sensor.

The LR sensors are mounted on, or in a bracket/mounting plate. There's no silicone to stick them in (different cars). Sikaflex is the polyurthane adhesive which bonds the windscreen to the car (and also the sensor mounting bracket if it's a metal one).

The sensor bracket was fitted with what i can only describe as a double sided tape! I hasten to add, not like the stuff that holds your number plates on!

When the clamps were done up the tape was not sufficient and gradually peeled itself off of the windscreen leaving air bubbles between the sensor & the glass rendering it next to useless!

Hence the use of P.U. glue... Rolling Eyes

I'm on my third windscreen in under a year. The first one that was fitted was a Shatterpruff (or something along those lines) by AutoGlass. Despite them being adamant it was exactly the same it felt noisier and was pretty sure the heated elements looked different, particularly at the bottom.

When my second one was done I, after quite some effort, got them to use a Land Rover one. It's noticeably quieter with the elements less in your face. Did have to pay an extra hundred quid or so. Ed

Just discovered the auto-lights also aren't working terribly well. Rolling Eyes

I've been switching them on manually and then switching back to auto after a few minutes, whereupon the sensor suddenly wakes up.

I take it the light sensor is part of the same windscreen gubbins that the wipers are located in? Si. <This is my name.

Just an update on this, and another question:

The windscreen company have replaced the windscreen once again as there was still far too much wind noise even after new fittings.

However, the rain and light sensor clearly isn't working, so they've ordered a new one and are fitting it tomorrow.

I just want to make sure it needs no activation by a computer / diagnostic tool, and is 'plug and play'? Si. <This is my name.

just looked on the GAP site at the functionality list and in the BPM-body processor list there is a 'rain sensor' option but i cant find anything else re the 'auto lights'..
i suspect its just plug-n-play Si...

to make sure the sensor is working ,put lights on auto and cover it with your hand and the lights should come on... ... - .- -.

I had a new windscreen a few weeks ago (genuine LR one at dealer) and wipers now not working properly on auto.

Thanks Stan. Thumbs Up

Those are my thoughts, too, regards plug and play.

With the new 'screen in place, I plugged in my IID Tool to check the wiper error messages and I had the same message as before.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, it'll be fixed tomorrow. If not, then Angry Simon will appear (in my angry trousers) and I'll cause havoc at Admiral and the windscreen company beyond what I did today.

If the wind noise is still present then I'll insist on a LR one. Si. <This is my name.

Si I had mine replaced by autodials and was given the option of a pilkington one or a pilkington one stamped landrover extra cost was 300 quid so went for the pilkington now they had to replace it twice because of wind noise and on one of those occasions wipers didn't work - I made them replace it and all the trims and told them
i would keep doing so till it all worked they took car away and brought it back 24 hrs later all perfect so maybe it needs done in the shop ??
Hope it works out

I think the non LR screen from pilkington comes with and without the rain sensor so check you have it. Should be obvious of course.

Here you go this from the insurance co at the time for a 2007 s/c
Following on from my previous email Autoglass have advised the following in regards to Landrover dealership (OE) glass.

Product Code: 7033AGAGNHMV6T - LANDROVER RANGE ROVER 5J 2002-ON WINDSCREEN-GREEN+ACOUSTIC+GREEN TOP TINT+HEATED+VIN+MOISTURE SENSOR+ROUND BOSS

The additional costs for the OE product to be added to job is: £325.98 + vat (excluding your excess).

The like for like glass is still available to yourself as per the terms of your policy, however if you would like to pay the additional cost please advise and I will update Autoglass.
The like for like was pilkington too only difference was no Landrover logo

I have always insisted on genuine LR screen replacements and always take to depot. and always check they have connected the drain pipes under scuttle. Never had a problem and i had a few screens.
