Front Mud Guards not quite flush to bodywork

Folks,

I spent a few hours fitting some front mud guards to my Range Rover. They are Land Rover mud guards, the previous owner had sidebars and front mud guards that were removed so the necessary brackets were left along with the two necessary holes in each side of the plastic panel. I checked with the template from Land Rover that the holes were exact and they were.

So I fitted them but have noticed they are not quite snug to the bodywork, I tried bending slightly some of the brackets but it made no difference, almost as if the rubber/plastic has a slight lip on it.

Question is, how do others fit? Do you have this issue? I was wondering whether it's worth me heating the plastic a little with a hair dryer and bending in??

I didn't think of that Smile

Was just puzzled as to why there are slight gaps. I think the perfectionist in me ... I need to take into account it is almost 12 years old.

You may need to take it off and try again. Its only a lighweight panel and need to be located exactly to look right but can easily be moved about using finger power. Silicone NO Shocked

Not sure they can come down any lower as the holes were already cut in the panel (perfect alignment with the Land Rover template) and the brackets already in place. The panel is so flimsy I worry about breaking it or any of the flimsy plastic brackets on the back of it. I spent a while yesterday trying to adjust to no avail Sad

One option I have is to remove the old brackets and fit the new ones supplied with the mud guards. I didn't bother fitting the new ones since the old ones were in place already.

I also noted that you needed to remove some of the trim underneath the wing for this and not having done this before, I didn't really want to. Do you think fitting the new brackets will correct this or can I simply adjust (bend) the brackets that are there to close this gap?

As Stan mentions, maybe they need to drop vertically ever so such but I'm not sure how I can do this as they are fitted into the holes of the removable plastic wing piece.

Mine were from Land Rover themselves. The brackets that were already on my RR aligned with the holes so I assume if there were any changes in the brackets it would have been highly noticeable.

As I say, I did not remove the plastic inside the inner wing above the wheel as per the instructions as I was worried in breaking something and also, the wheel may need to come off and/or crank it up to off-road height.

If I push the mud flaps towards the vehicle then it fits flush, but take the pressure off and it goes back to having the slight gap.

Mine are just like yours, with a slight bend away from the bodywork. Think it is more to do with the plastic warping. Hair-dryer may do the trick.

Are OK, weird isn't it?

I spent what I thought was 2 hours but was actually 4 as my wife confirmed Shocked

I am fairly sure it is the plastic, these are new mud guards so with time perhaps they will settle or I can try a hair dryer. Never in my time of owning a car have I ever seen such a Censored to fit set of front mud guards. As I say, I'm reluctant to start again, take out the old brackets and fit the new identical ones if I'll end up in the same position. I run the risk of breaking some of the inside wing covers etc

Yes, there are two bolts that fix to the removable plastic panel.

I basically took the panel off, fitted the mud guard to it using the two bolts with washers and nuts on each side. Then, after popping the panel back in with the newly attached mudguard, fixed to the brackets using 4 screws on the inside of the wheel arch.
