Craig,

If you have your rear fogs on when a car is that close to you then you are one of those annoying drivers that doesn't understand what a fog light is for!!!!

I'm sure you aren't really Smile

I like the idea of using it to reverse though as there is no lighting where I live and the reverse lamps are quite frankly pants....

Im simply stating the obvious sir Bow down If used as is in the listing images i personally think its irresponsible and dangerous! In the same way as shining a laser pen in drivers eyes would be too! Which is all it seems to be in essence! Hence my first post... Whistle Whistle Whistle

The hazard lights are fine.......it's just the flashing brake lights that would be illegal.

It's worth reading Part 1 of Schedule 12 of the Roads Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 which relates specifically to the provision and use of vehicle stop lamps.
Nowhere in the schedule does it say stop lamps cannot flash or are required to be constant when in use.
In my humble opinion flashing rear stop lamps are perfectly legal, a view which seems to be supported by a number of vehicle manufacturers and sellers of such products.
I don't doubt these flashing stop lamps will slowly become widespread in use, you never know eve LR might even get round to fitting them. Very Happy

You're right, it doesn't mention flashing in the specific section......however it does in S.13 which covers All vehicle lamps.

It does seem that whatever any of us and the RVLR1989's say flashing brake lights are legal for use in Europe under ECE 48 and as such are now fitted to a significant number of new cars and have been in various guises for a number of years.
Interestingly the MOT test lists a flashing brake light as a failure.
Given that a lot of cars with flashing brake lights have now been subject to an MOT test and presumably not failed I think it's a case of the RVLR1989 simply not keeping pace with what is allowed under EU which appears to take precedent.

I was under the impression that manufacturers that are fitting flashing brake lamp systems make them flash only when EBD type systems are working...

i.e. they don't flash in normal use, press the pedal VERY HARD and they flash (to warn other road users your razzing it!)

Is that not so?

thats also the impression i'm getting by trawling the web craig..its the emergency press hard on the brake that activates the flashing brake light..

i think because its a grey area of law the aftermarket manufacturers are taking advantage to sell their flashers.. ... - .- -.

That does appear to be the case with the earlier cars, which incidentally is also contrary to the RVLR1989 but is allowed under ECE 48 but it does seem manufacturers are now expanding on this and introducing flashing rear brake lights, particularly the centre high level light.

I think many get confused by watching top gear etc as their camera's make all LED lights appear to flash!

i kinda think that its enough that the FF's led brake lights are pretty bright so there really isnt any need for one of these...
fitting one of these flashers to the 3rd brake light would only attract attention from the police and give them an excuse to stop you .....
but i think a speed related flasher that only worked over 50mph for instance would be a good addition... ... - .- -.
