Tailgate issue

The bottom part of my tailgate, to be able to close it I have to slam it pretty hard, once it's closed if I pull both ends the left side comes away as if it's not being held shut, where should I start?

Had the same with mine...had to adjust the keep (the bit that is on the car not the tailgate) as the latch on the tailgate wasn't hooking the keep correctly, leaving one side loose.

Its simple enough. Just loosen the allen head screws and move it out a little. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Jammer, first job to do is to look at the top of the catches... There is a "pull up" plastic catch on the top! with the lower tailgate open, put your finger underneath and lift the two catches up... Then close the lower tailgate (without slamming it) and see if both catches lock... If they do now... You have a catch lock issue sir... If no difference then you probably have an alignment issue sir... Thumbs Up

I had this exact problem today at the shops.
I removed the plastic trim which is held on with 6 cap covered screws (powerful uk have a vid)
Popped the carpet covered bit off.
Doing one side at a time,
Removed the 2 torx bolts holding the latch in place
Removed the latch and sprayed so pious amounts of wd40 / gt85 and left it to soak a bit
Removed the tailgate strap
Removed the actuator mounting and cleaned / sprayed the motor / gubbings
Went back to the latch and sprayed it some more to clean all the dirt out. Keep spraying and working the mechanism / plastic catch until it's free and returns smartly.
Do the same t'other side

Then put it all back to get her with some copper grease on the strap bolts
Should all be working again.
