Coming back from Lowestoft the other day, I was on a fast bit of dual carriageway. I had to add a bit of speed to avoid trapping a car behind a slow-moving lorry. I noticed the driver's side edge of the bonnet lift. I found the next layby and investigated. The driver's side was not secured but the nearside catch was. I'd refilled the washer bottle a few days before.

Everyone looks slightly strange at me when i slam FFRR bonnets! I do it routinely so there can be no question... |

Surely the bonnet catches can be adjusted so they hold securely. A coating of grease helps too. |

Yes, but nothing like a good slam to make sure they are home & locked |

I just drop mine from about 300mm, you get a satisfying clunk then. |

The problem on the L405 is that there are two catches. There is a satisfying clunk as you drop it and a cursory central feel will indicate that it is closed. However, you need to test both sides.

There have been two catches on all RR's since the P38 days EM... Experience says a firm slam works well sir

Probably worth noting Craig, the grease LR use seems to be earth shifter grade. I cleaned it all off with brake cleaner and then applied some spray white grease which doesn't go hard in the cold. The bonnet closes properly every time with no more than a 18" drop slam. |

To be honest, i don't think I've seen more than half a dozen FF's with any kind of lube on them... I presumed LR did not do it

A warning should have appeared on your dash info. It's one you really notice.

I have had the same problem on my Disco 4. Had to stop a coupe of times to resecure the passenger side catch.
